m235i: rough costs of head gasket, cylinder head, and engine replacement?
I have a 2015 m235i RWD Coupe
Do any of you have an idea of the rough costs of the following repairs? 1. Cost for head gasket replacement 2. Cost for cylinder head replacement 3. Cost for complete engine replacement Thanks in advance. |

$15.6k for the engine replacement (getbmwparts.com). That doesn't include labor. Msrp is over 19k. |

Warranty still applicable? Assuming you aren't stock if they aren't picking up the tab?

Crack a head is possible if engine isn't warmed up yet and with aggressive throttle.. Even more so with a tune.
If you want to play... You have to pay. Sucks, but it's true. Hopefully they will help you somehow. I'm personally staying away from any engine/drivetrain mods. |

Were you missfiring? Throw any codes..? Coolant in the oil..?
Without pulling the head and checking your plugs it will be hard to know your exact situation. I would think a cracked head or block is not likely. Probably head gasket failure. What i would be more worried about is a tech finding a HG failure to be the cause then just replacing, checking leak down, and compression then calling it a day. With the coolant seepage depending on if coolant mixed into your oil it could have diluted, depending on longevity and severity, and cause premature rod bearing failure Etc. A lean A/F mixture or detonation could have caused your problem. I hope BMW takes care of you and wish u the best of luck |

BMW is denying any repair under warranty as they found the ECU had been tampered with. So here's hoping it is only a gasket that needs repair.
I was not throwing any codes, engine was running fine, just needing to add coolant every week and 1L oil every few thousand miles. I did not see any coolant in the oil though I did only visually inspected it and did not sample it much. |

-Believe it or not......
But we have done some fair amount of Cylinder Head gaskets on the N55 Engines here at the shop over the past year or so. 98% of the failures are just the gaskets. It is not an cheap fix. Don't be surprised if they Quote you new Vanos control units as they will most likely need to be replaced during the repair. If the vehicle is at the dealer that you bought the car from... and even if you have been a customer in the past, I would try to talk your way into getting the dealer to GOOD WILL some of it for u. Each deal is different but ive seen some where its 70/30 so customer pays 70 and dealer pays 30, Or customer aggrees to buy all the parts at full cost and the shop covers the labour. Im surprised that they found that dme had been tampered with? Did they say in person or Tech notes that they made a PUMA Case for the cause? Was there a No ENCODING fault found when they scanned faults. If you havent told them that it's tuned/flashed, id ask for proof from either them and or Puma showing that it has been tampered with. Downpipe and or Charge pipes are not going to cause a Headgasket to fail. I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but it does give you some viable options. Hope some of this helps |
