Chrome Diesel Exhaust for 320d
I know there have been a couple of threads on this already.
When I ordered my car, I asked for a chrome exhaust tip to be installed on my 320d. The dealer said they would order it but when I went to collect the car in January, they said the part was not in production. It's been a month and they still say they haven't received the part. When I check other threads, I see that it is possible to fit a chrome tip on the 320d by cutting the downturned pipe of the exhaust and fitting a straight oval tip. The dealer however, said the the chome tip will also be downturned but the part isn't available yet. I am guessing that cars without a particulate filter need to have a downturned tip and that the straight oval exhaust is really meant for diesel cars like the 330d which have a particulate filter. Does anyone know anything about a downturned chrome exhaust tip for a 320d, 318d etc? Is the dealer giving me the runaround or...? |

I feel your frustration!
There is a part number in the UK accessories brochure for chrome tip for the "diesel models". Unfortunately, as you point out there does not seem to be a chrome tip for the down-turned exhausts. Just have to wait for an aftermarket part to surface. |

just wondering, is there a reason why the exhausts are pointed down on the diesels?

My dirty 320d with PF: Masters' clean 320d without PF: For diesels with particle filter (and the straight, oval tip) the chrome cover should be available. I have been thinking about getting it. My dealer tells me they can order it and it costs about €35. EDIT: RealOEM only shows the chrome tip for 320d's with the particle filter. It doesn't look like there is one for the 'downturned' exhaust.

This is what the chrome tip looks like for the 4-cylinder models.
What do you all think? Worth the €35? After joining E90Post I promised myself that I wasn't going to do anything with this car, but....... [images courtesy of eBay auctions numbers 8038436471 and 8038424773]

So the dealer just emailed me to tell me the the straight exhaust pipe for my 320d (no particulate filter) has arrived.
So now I need to decide... (i) do I wait for a chrome tip for the downturned exhaust (if one ever comes out) (ii) do I have the downturned end of my exhaust cut off and have the straight chrome exhaust tip installed The disadvantage of (ii) is that it is against regulations for a diesel without particulate filter. Will that affect my warrantly/value in any way? Will it annoy other drivers if I blow smoke? Will it soot-up my bumper? Any advice? |

I wonder how much it would be to install a particle filter?
I personally like my downturned exhaust...it distinguishes me from 320i drivers :-) and then fuel attendants know to use diesel. |

Since I've been on this 50ppm stuff, the car hardly smokes at all!! :-) Even more "baby" smoke than before - so any cost wouldn't really be worth it! :-) Thanks again E90Fleet... |
