Pressure Washer Help....

I got a Nilfisk pressure washer for Xmas, still not used it lol.

I've decided that I'm going to have to try it from a water butt. The butt has a tap towards the bottom but what I'm worried about is debris. I know the Nilfisk has an internal filter but should I be trying to find some sort of filter to attach to the tap on the water butt?

I'm pretty sure the internal filter will be tiny and a pita to clean, so I'd definitely be looking at a pre filter of some description. You may be better putting the pipe in from the top with a large filter / strainer on the end, you could even make one from a pop bottle and some sponge etc

The main reason to run from the bottom tap would be gravity and as its a few inches from the base most of the crud will be beneath that point.

So I could just drop hose in from top with some sort of filter attached?

Assuming the pressure washer is in the same position, syphoning from the top would give you the same gravitational advantage.

Priming the pump could be fiddly if you syphon out

Ah ok lol. So basically you need water coming out of the hose before you connect it to the PW?

Yes, once you set up the syphon (ie water coming out of the hose) it will keep on going till the butt runs out. If you don't fancy sucking, dunk the hose till it's full of water, stick your thumb over the end and quickly drop the end of the hose down to the pressure washer before taking your thumb away. If you get it right you'll have a syphon.
