17/25 MPG for both the 328 & 335?
How can this be? One is NA, and the other is a TT.

can't be right, our national BMW website lists a big difference between the two (we don't have the 328i, we have 325i and 330i so i used the 330i which seemed closest).

Also one is direct injection the other is not. In my 335i I have personally gotten 31MPG on a 125mile trip before. (Doing the math using the stated 16.1gal fuel tank.) The needle was squarely on 1/4 tank having been used when I parked.

I can vouch for the 31 mpg--it actually bothered me when I saw that on my mpg computer after 2 hours on the highway. I thought something was wrong with the computer. After the next fill-up, I did the math, and sure enough, it was accurate to the tenth. 300 HP car and flirts with 30 mpg, what will they think of next?

I got 27.2 today driving from Columbia, MO to BHM, 635 miles
I had the cruise set at 78 the whole way, except for IL, where I stuck with 72......the limit is still 65 there, and the troopers are SERIOUS about it, too 300 hp, pretty decent mileage, too - what's not to like?

Yup, same here on the 31mpg on the highway, even cruising at fast as 75-80. The direct injection is a big role, but also remember the turbos allow the engine to accelerate without having to rev so high, so it might be eating more guess when you beat her but when you don't she just chills.

it is true that a turbo'ed car will provide nice MPG if you drive carefully, that's one of the few pro's of turbos (yeah, there are con's as well.. ). but the question is still whether both the 335i and the 328i offer the same MPG during the same driving conditions..

Both 328 and 335 have pretty similiar liter engines, but the 335 has the dual turbos. If we don't go full throttle and drive "normal" (as in going with speed limit, soft acceleration), we'll probably have similar gas mileage. But if we start pressin the gas more than normal, then it's a different story

According to fueleconomy.gov, here are the mileage ratings for 2008:
328 manual 18/28 auto 19/28 335 manual 17/26 auto 17/26 So the 328 gets about 2 more mpg than the 335. Under hard driving, the difference is probably larger because the 335 is capable of processing a lot more fuel/air under boost, therefore delivering much more power. |

I consistently get 21MPG driving 80% city. All highway I get 31. And that's with winter formulation. Sometime in april this # should go up.

I have a 328i with only 800 miles on it and I can barely get over 18. I'm pressing reeeeally lightly on the gas, not using sport mode at all and I still can't do any better. Crossing my fingers that it gets better after break in.
I'm getting really resentful of these 335'ers who are driving more city than highway and getting over 20, cuz saving gas was one of the rationalizations for getting a 328. GRRRR........ |
