Good move, I got tired of seeing people not paying attention on the road while talking on the cell phone.

studies show its not the hand in the phone that causes distractions and wreck, its the mind somewhere else that cuases inattention. another useless law.

in fact they cant even pull you over for that alone - you have to be committing some other violation.

I think it's good they're coming up withthis. Sick of people slowing up traffic by holding the phone in one hand and the other on the steering wheel.

this law is dumb. it doesn't fix the problem. you're right, now people will just text instead...which is more distracting and you have to take your eyes off the road.

talking and or using a cell phone is the law I belive. I could be wrong. But if a cop see's you looking back and forth into your lap then you will most likly get a ticket (unless your getting head). I dont think cops are going to get on the boat with this one for a while after its in effect but then again maybe they will at first then back off after a few months.

they did this in NY a few years back. people were getting nailed. but it is all total chance. its one of those things that comes and goes. they'll probably be dicks at first, and then forget about it.

Texting falls into the same category as voice under the provision of this law. Kind of like unsafe speed infraction for speed limits.

"The law does not specifically prohibit that, but an officer can pull over and issue a citation to a driver of any age if, in the officer’s opinion, the driver was distracted and not operating the vehicle safely. Text paging while driving is unsafe at any speed and is strongly discouraged"

WOW this is the dumbest law Ive heard of. I heard its a $20 dollar ticket. I mean come on thats nothing in my opinion.Plus they cant catch everyone anyways just like they cant stop everyone from speeding over speed limit when average spd on freeway SAT morning in my area is at least 80 mph

Honestly, I really hate it when the city makes money off of crap like this.

However, I hope this seriously discourages people from using their cellphones while driving. This drives me absolutely nuts. Some lady almost creamed my brand new m3 yesterday because her phone conversation was more important that driving.

I also find it ridiculous that a seatbelt ticket is 6 times the cost of the cell phone ticket.

Thanks - I was just going to mention that studies showed it's not the phone in the hand but the mental distraction of the conversation that distracts...knee jerk reaction law!

If you cant afford bluetooth this might be a option.
