ticking noise from my engine bay

Hello all, I just picked up my 335 coupe 2 weeks ago and started her this morning and left her there for about 2 min to warm up and when I came back out I heard a ticking noise coming from my engine bay at idle.. I drove to work and parked it and it was gone..i only have like 700 miles on it. Is this normal? I've been hearing a lot about wastegate problems but I've read that you hear it when you decelerate in rpms so I doubt its the wastegate
Thanks

I think the problem exists when you blip the rpms to 3K or so and then the noise is audible as the rpms die out.

Ahh so thats what they did with my old wastegate... They gave it to you!

Nah engine uses Direct Injection.. you will hear a ticking every once and a while especially on cold starts, if you still hear it when you get where you are going and you hear it during acceleration, then you have a problem.

Ticking at idle is NORMAL for our cars.. What your hearing is the Direct Injection system...

Also, it could be the transmission. I have a slight chatter at idle with my manual. When I depress the clutch, the chatter sound goes away. Took it to the dealer, they said it was coming from the tranny and it was normal since our transmissions were so "BEEFY" Lame excuse, but whatever.

I've had this sound from day 1.

yes ticking is normal and the louder ticking is also normal during cold starts, it goes away once it is warmed up. also when cold it also comes and goes.

I have the clutch chatter as well. Whatever. This car seems to have a bunch of little quirks.

I have had this issue in the morning...even though I have a heated garage. I spoke with my SA yesterday morning and he said that they have had no complaints about any ticking noises on the 335. He said that they have had complaints on the 328i, which is weird because I had one and never heard a thing.

He told me to replicate the sound...I told him to come to my house about 7:30 am, otherwise the noise will be gone by the time I get to the dealership.

I do hear it faintly even after it's warm. But, until I feel power loss, i'm not going to worry too much.

Direct Injection System creates a ticking due to the pressures involved and the fact the injectors are, for the most part, in direct contact with the cylinder head.

The somewhat louder ticking noises on cold start are possibly more related to the valve actuators - I had this issue on my E90 330i. Once the engine warms up it "should" go away, but you will always hear the Direct Injection tick.

I would go to another dealer and have them swap out your gearbox and clutch before your warenty is up.

that noise your hearing is your flywheel and you could need a new throw out bearing.

This noise should not be there unless you have a light weight flywheel.
