Track setup queries

Thinking about to go with the following setup for a track only.

10jx18 front/rear with 260 or 265 wide slicks.

Can someone tell me would there be a problem to 260or265 at the front?

Also, as these will be on completely new set of wheels, would it be possible to install new TP sensors on them or they can run without them?

The tire width is possible, but a 10" wide wheel is highly unlikely without custom front fenders. Our M2 has a 9.5" wide wheel, and even that fitment was relatively aggressive.

I'm test fitting some 18x10's all around in two weeks. From what i understand we will have troubles up front . Are you planning on running any camber?

Maybe one day in the future, as I'm completely newbee when it comes to trackdays.

So, my initial plan is to get a set of wheels and tires which will be mild setup, and would be compatible when I go with M performance suspension upgrade.

I got some nice wheels and tires, so I would like to hear what from anyone experience which setup would be fine.

18x9.5j ET40 or ET35

Tires are Advan 250/660 slicks.

If slicks wouldn't be available, I'm thinking about 255/35 all around.

Any suggestion is welcome!

I wouldn't be using slicks if you are new to track days, start with a grippy summer tire that will provide some audible feedback so you can hear and feel mistakes. Slicks take no prisoners when they let go.

I agree with you,

So what do you think about Et40 18x9.5j all round, and 255/35 front&rear.

Or 255/35 can fit easily to 9j?

I'm on a mission to make the 10"/275 combo fit functionally up front, with no more than -2.5* of camber.

David -

What offset are you planning on running up front? Stock suspension or coilover?

are you thinking you'll need to roll the front inner fenders to get 10/275's to clear or will the camber give you enough space to clear the fender?

I just had the car aligned with -2.5* and have been working with BC Forged closely to get the wheel to fit. The car currently has BC coilovers with camber plates so we're building the wheel around fitting this particular setup.

I plan on flattening the lip on the inside of the front fenders, but do not want to roll or pull them so that it's noticeable from the outside of the fender.

We haven't decided on a final offset but it will have to be in the low-mid 20s to clear everything. The deciding factor now will be if we plan on making the wheel fit with tires that have large lip protectors (Michelin PSS, etc) or if want to just make them fit with the style of tire we plan to run (aggressive street or even R-comps) that usually don't have any sort of lip protector built in to the tire.

Our wheels have been ordered with BC and should be here in ~3-4 weeks. We ordered a true square setup, 18x10 with the same offset all around. We will run a spacer up front to clear the caliper/coilover, this way the wheels can be rotated front to rear without any issues. We also have our Nitto NT05 275/35/18 tires sitting here waiting for their forged counterparts!

Looking forward to your wheelset feedback and photos.

Good luck!

If you're a newb... don't do any of that. Run stock for a few events.
Then you should look into wheels and max performance tires, but NOT SLICKS. Slicks typically break away suddenly and if you're skills aren't ready for it, you'll crash. Max performance tires will break away more progressively.

As for the coils, stick with the stock suspension for a while from skill perspective. It'll take a lot of time before you're better than the stock suspension. But if you want to drop it a little, then look for something with a linear spring rate.

Get some 18" apex wheels and RE-71r's tires. Leave everything stock other than SS brake lines and pads until you are able to put down consistent times at the limits of the tire throughout a lapping session. Avoid slicks like the plague, that will be like being taught by nun with a baseball bat.

To Yellowflash21,

I agree with Redux reply with two small changes:
- You don't need to change your brake lines on an M2.
- When you go on track you should always make sure your break oil is no older than 6 months.

Have fun

We have successfully fit 18x10 275/35/18 square on our M2 with BC Coilovers and camber plates. -2.5* camber up front and -1.7* rear. Photos coming soon!

Will a 285 square 18 fit? I have a set of EC7's 18X10 laying around from my E90 M3.

This is what I run on my 1M. 18x 10 square.

It's an excellent setup, it's terrific to be able to rotate and I can also run Bridgestone 285/30/18 as well which are far wider tread.

I'll be very disappointed with the M2 if this setup doesn't work for you.

I'm interested in the wheel offset as well since I pulled the trigger on a set of clubsports this week. Wondering if I need to run my existing Volks with 9.5 up front from my E90 to clear the spring perches, or order a set of 18x10 and square it up. Also, how's the handling with equal contact patches on all corners compared to stock?

track setup

This is my track setup
Not all 18,s fit unfortunately. Even with the correct offset. Barrel size is also critical.
18 x10 - et 35
18 x 9 - et 20
Springs are H & R sport springs

Square may have been better, but i had a number of track tyres that suit these sizes better

Greetings to the best board ever.
Newbie with Nov delivery date.

As per 1st post, are TP sensors required on track setup? I have an Apex square setup that I want to have ready when she arrives. Suggestions on where to get another set of sensors? Thanks in advance

TPMS certainly isn't required. The pressure readings aren't accurate, but I got them to let me know if I suffer a puncture on track. Tire Rack can easily hook you up for the sensors.
