Under bonnet trim and drainage

I did a quick search in the UK sub forum so apologies if this has been discussed before and would be grateful for a link to the thread.

Has anyone noticed there are 2-3 areas in the trim under the bonnet where water can collect and there aren’t any drainage holes? I’ve highlighted a yellow box around the area I’m talking about.

Without water:

I see the winderscreen wiper does have a drainage hole so any ideas if there is suppose to be a hole and what they are suppose to do?

Part of my drying process is to scoop water out of there and give it a wipe.

Yes water collects along there in my F36 as well. I usually scoop it out after a wash. I was considering creating a little drain hole myself. Not sure if that's a good idea as I don't know what's under that panel and I'm sure proper drain holes are not just a hope but have some kind of rubber piping directing excess water to road surface?

I'm glad it's not just me. I just scooped out a lot of dirt today because it was the first time i had the bonnet up as i was cleaning it.

I found it odd because there is a drainage channel below and infront of the highlighted area (left of the picture). You can see the small sediment 1 level below and for it to be so close I thought it could've been a fault.

I had the same on my F36 - after some digging around it turns out that we do indeed have the actual drainage channels underneath but no holes for the water to reach them! I went through with a 6mm drill bit on a slow speed! Perfect!

On the cars you are referring too do you have a hole on the drivers side? Just not the middle and passenger side? The f36 had one hole so I added another 2

That's exactly what I see. The wiper arm with the hole is on the driver side and the first picture is from the passenger side. I saw one towards the middle as well but it was smaller than the passenger side.

Did you drill a hole straight down on both?

There is a quality enhancement for removal of grommets. Have your cars had it done?

Mine hasn't been back to stealer yet. Any ideas when the enhancement came out or any other details?

I just drilled straight through at the bottom of the dip! It is only about 3mm thick and you only need to go just through it! The drainage channels are there as it 'tested' it with a jug of water after I had done it!

There is also another water holding pool on top on my LED headlights. I'm always give the engine a little wipe over after a wash and just wicker these up.

It's on both, it's about 6mm deep and holds water. I will try to photograph tomorrow.

It depends on the age of your cars, our 2012 car had to have it done, the 2014 already had the enhancement at build.

You may have seen and checked this place, too - but just in case....

There is a deep well in hte engine bay, on the driver's side where the steering column (I think) and the wiring loom come through from the cabin. This really fills up with water to the extent that I syphoned about 3 litres of water out of it before taking it to the dealer.
I think this is the "enhancement" where they remove a grommet at the bottom of the cavity which lets it drain normally.
After that is done they're no problem at all.

Yes, that is what the enhancement addressed I believe, though my car doesn't collect water where others have shown above or on the headlights.
