But that's special edition M3 and not a standard 3 series!

Yes £26k more than the standard M3 sounds a lot, but all the extra kit on it, Carbon brakes, adaptive LED's, carbon splitter, diffuser, spoiler & mirrors, competition package, full merino leather, M Performance steering wheel, HK, DCT - all must add up to around £20k
Plus residuals will be immense, you could probably sell it immediately for £100k or so! |

But it wouldn't be registered as special edition hence the price difference !

A friend of mine was a 335d with every extra available and he has the original bill of sale for £72k I think it is. He got it 6 months old for 36k. Mental money for a 3 series diesel

Well someone got ripped off then as a 335d with everything on it inc individual paint and full individual leather and the full service pack plus lists as less than 60k and you'll get 10k off that.

Don't have to compare to a normal M3..3-4 years down the line the normal one will be worth as much as piss water and the jahre may not lose anything..
10-15k more but just 30 of them.. I want one. |

Special editions, particularly when they have a limited production run, are a great marketing tool designed to get people to part more of their hard earned pennies on options they really didn't want.
Whilst the early indications of residuals for the M5 30 Jahre look promising, it is only 18 months or so since it came out. It came out in September 2014. In October 2015, Sytner still had a brand new unregistered car and offered it to me at a discount from list price - though it was still far more than I was willing to pay. It was still up with them as recently as March/April this year on the AUC site (though still unregistered) with a "fake" registration plate and was being advertised at well above list. However you only need to look at the special edition M5 M Performance Editions from the back end of 2012 to see what is most likely to happen down the line. The UK had 30 cars - 10 each of the 3 colours (frozen white, frozen red and frozen blue) and they listed at around 90k. 3 1/2 years later, they're up for typically around 40k on the AUC site. Similar age standard cars are at most 5k less, however these cost 10-15k less at purchasing time. The M3 Limited Edition 500 seems to suffer the same fate. Whilst it wasn't anywhere near the price premium (only a couple of k), it is still a limited edition model, yet on the AUC site it seems to have no discernable difference in price from standard optioned cars for a similar age car. |

It's a silly price and even if I could afford it and was offered one I wouldn't buy it for all the reasons already stated so eloquently...
However... That colour, those ceramic brake callipers, those wheels....!! I think it looks unbelieveably gorgeous! |
