M3 has TV option?

I know I have read about this before, but I can't find the thread any where.
Does the new M3 has the TV option? How can I activate it? I played with my idrive but I didn't see it.
If we don't have it, does the Europeon models get it? and if so, can we order it?

No, I seriously doubt TV is an option.

1. Illegal in all states. Only if TV is in back seat is it legal. (You could put monitors in the front headrests.)

2. I don't ever recall BMW ever offering this in the US. : It's always been aftermarket.

3. DVD would be worth it, perhaps. However for over the air TV, next year it will all be HDTV (so they say). Unless they are offering an ATSC receiver the TV option would not be worth it. I have not seen digital TV offerings from BMW in Europe, so I don't believe it is an option anywhere yet, but I could be wrong on this. :

4. Now DirecTV, with a moving satellite dish on top of that CF roof that is coupled to the GPS nav so it knows where to point would be super cool. Skinemax, here we come! :

There's no built in TV option, but there are aftermarket options. Please see this thread -- http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121788

Just found this. Not exactly TV, but offered by BMW in the US.

My M3 can show over-the-air TV stations on the iDrive screen. It's a gimmick tbh.

With the US switching to digital TV in Feb 2009 you will want to make sure you are buying a unit that doesn't become a brick in a few months

In answer to your question, Yes BMW does offer over the over the air TV option in the M3, however this is offered in markets outside the USA. The TV option is nicely integrated into I-Drive and allows the video to be overlayed within a I-Drive screen. The TV option can receive both analog and digital European signals.

Although it might be possible to retrofit the TV option in USA vehicles (as far as I know, no-one has done this yet), there are a number of problems.

The first being, the vehicle would need to be coded to recognise the TV tuner. As far as I know, the BMW NA dealer coding computer is unable to do this.

Secondly, BMW would need to offer a retrofit wiring harness for the Tuner and antenna, again as far as I know this is not available.

And finally even if you could overcome the first two problem ... the TV tuner would probably only work with analog channels, as the tuner is unable to pick up USA ATSC digital channels. Therefore, its wont be long before those analog USA channels are switched off ... making the TV tuner useless in the USA.
