I've cheated on you...

I've left the fold and shacked up with this

I'm sure I'll miss the power of the 335d but really enjoyed it over the 2 years I had it.

Horses for courses, but I'm pretty taken with the vRS already. Owned an old mk 2.

Keep up the good work on the forum.

GTD in my case.

it's the TDi 184PS engine, DSG and 4x4.

Can't get any petrol vRS models with 4x4 which I wanted to keep.

Pros and Cons of course. Cannot beat the 335d drivetrain. Practicality and Value for Money is much better on Octavia, esp on a 0% APR deal and 10 % discount.

Can't take the pi$$ as the Skoda jokes don't really work any more - Pound for Pound, they're good cars.

Hope you don't miss the 100+ horses too much.

Wow.
You gotta respect the Skoda lot.
They ve taken a ridiculed brand to a place where someone can go swap a top end 3 series for a skoda.
That's amazing business progression.

Nice colour

How do you find the 4x4 on the VRS?

Ive just swapped my mk3 race blue VRS for a 335d as I fancied a change and a bigger engine. (Im still on Briskoda though as its a great forum )

Agreed

I had a Fabia VRS when they first came out. I think it was the first diesel hot hatch, and pretty much changed the game.

Wife now drives a Yeti.

Great brand

Pretty happy with new wheels so far

Obviously being about 120bhp down, the performance difference is very noticeable but the 4X4 means with the DSG box, you can just point and squirt and it feels quick enough to keep me interested. The VAG 2 litre diesel is much more refined than the BMW equivalent. The BW ZF gearbox is better than the DSG box.

Even though I had the adaptive suspension, I was never that impressed with the handling. So much so that I put AC Schnitzer springs on it - this helped but the damping just felt poor, despite adaptive setup. Much happier with vRS passive set up. The front end is noticeably more nimble too, presumably as no big heavy 3 litre lump in the octavia. There always seemed to be a bit of a delay when making a sharp steering wheel input

I really missed the practicality of the octavia - that's where the BMW really falls short.

The leather on the vRS is much more comfortable but the lower down plastics are hard and you can see where the money is saved, including the cheap as chips carpet in the boot

The BMW infotainment system is second to none, I've got Amundsen in Skoda and it's pretty good, but the interface and execution of Pro Nav is second to none and RTTI is great, as is the send to car app.

I've got android auto/car play which is cool, but won't compensate for lack of pro nav!

I've been on Briskoda forum for years now (this is my 5th vRS Skoda) (also had 4 BMWs) and like this forum, is a great resource.

Cheers

Enjoy your new motor. That colour is really marmite for me though.

I'm about to say go on a 3 Touring for practicality reasons... In what ways do you think the Octavia is more practical?

I used to have a MY2010 Mk2 vRS TFSI with DSG, Stage 3 bluefin tuned with custom freeflow down pipe, full straight through exhaust, uprated intercooler and the uprated high pressure fuel pump.. the thing went like stink and was easily sub 5.5 second 0-60 on a dry road. Which was not bad for a car that cost me £14,000

Unfortunately in every way. Massive amounts more boot space (600+ litres) and it's a better shape, plus there also noticably more space for the rear passengers. We own both an F31 and an Octavia estate and for load lugging we now pick the Octavia every time.

The F31 for such a big car is let down by not really being as practical as it could be, particularly noticeable if you have kids and all that associated kit.

Agree with the above, not quite so low to the ground too.

Also Octavia has more cubbies / storage and a few neat things like variable boot floor, can store tonneau cover beneath etc. Heated windscreen nice too.

Yep. If it's space that's important then the Octavia wins out. Huge boot and taller than the f31 so fits more in. I don't carry as much stuff as I used to and I found all my camera gear fits fine in the f31 so it wasn't as much of an issue for me. We will be buying a roof box for uk holidays though I think.

With the 4x4 vrs being new does the rear running gear reduce the boot size in any way?

Absolutely agree with the above, it totally depends on what you intend to use it for, the F31 is still a great car and still the best looking estate on the market IMHO, and for a lot of people would be absolutely fine

Funny you say that, had a friend round today in the last version type r civic. He was asking about the HUD so I said sit in and see for yourself, he thought it was great but first comment on getting in said, "cor, this is low". I didn't like to say it was an on stilts xDrive! Hehehe!

The driving position in the F30 is streets ahead of the Octavia - and the seat comfort and adjustability (irritating levers not withstanding) and also better in F30.

The F32 is a good looking car but I just spotted a CLS Shooting Brake in Silver in Waitrose Carpark, now that is one handsome car by any standards
