Seat bolster is already showing wear. Any input?
My seat bolster is already showing wear/scratches on the leather at 8k miles. Going to have to try some leather dye then figure out a way to protect it from future wear. The worn section is only a very slim section running down one of the seams.
A few companies out there make color matched leather dye for BMW. People seem to get good results. I run my bolsters pretty aggressive and don't want to change that. Was thinking of using one of the seat memory buttons as an exit button so it moves the seat back and opens up the bolster. Not sure I want to do that every time I exit the car. Anyone have any idea what I could place over the bolster that would protect it, but not look too ugly? Lots of bucket seats (Recaro, etc) make add-on pads for their seats because of this. |

Had similar problem. Determined it was zipper on back of jacket (pheasant pouch). Got paint pen on eBay for about $8 - perfect match, just have to touch it up from time to time

Mine has not started tearing yet, but that's what I'm concerned about. Currently it's just scratches on the surface. Enough that it's taken the color off. I think my "fake" leather is more susceptible to this.
Mine is in the same spot as yours though. |

Dang. Guess it's time to bring seat covers back from the '90s.

Going to dye the scratches. Should be cheap to do.
I'll come up with a way to cover that section with matching leather. With minimal impact to the way it looks....I hope. I'll post pics of what I come up with. Low priority for me at the moment though. |

The same wear happened to my 2012 135i even though I was extremely careful not to brush against it when I get in. So, for the 2016 M235i I saved a piece of that flexible "clingy" vinyl that protects electronic screens in shipping. I cut it out and stuck it on. Not quite as noticeable as in the picture, but still ugly as sin . However, it's easily removable when not doing the daily grind to and from work. I'm not sure how many times I can peel it off and stick it on, but if it wears out I'll just have to buy more electronic toys!

I was thinking of using a larger patch of leather so it covers that whole section of the bolster (I think this will look better than a small patch). Then using some removable glue, so it doesn't damage the leather, to keep it on. Found this glue: http://www.michaels.com/removable-gl...=glue&start=35 |

I noticed more wear on my side bolster today. I'm now in the habit of entering ass in first to avoid touching the seat. Pretty lame. :/

Mine look almost exactly like the OPs - it started by 3 months. Pretty weak.
I now move the seat back for ingress/egress if I am parked where I can't get the door opened wide enough to move forward during an exit. Memory 1 is for driving, memory 2 is for in and out.

I coded in easy access for the seat (moves back a few inches on shut-down/door open, moves forward again on engine start) and that helped, but I was still catching the bolster now and then on entry.
Finally just had to get in the habit of getting in ass first and then swinging my legs in. The easy access makes this easier to do without touching the bolster, so still a valid coding change.
