Would you?

Alright All,

I brought my Range Rover Evoque back from Oz last year when I moved back home.

Cost me a fair bit to get it registered and on the road here but all is well.

She's a bueat but the wife does not drive her that much at all. So the fact We paid a lot of cash for it a few weeks before we decided to return to the UK means our savings took a hit.

Trying to buy a house now and the extra cash would be handy as house prices are sky high in the South!

So the question is would you buy an imported car? All road legal in UK, only serviced at main dealer, very low miles (well KM's as I can't change the digital display to miles) great spec etc...

So if it were the car you wanted, but it came with an Aussie birth certificate and and bit of an Aussie accent, would you still go for it?

Not sure if I would personally so keen for your thoughts guys

Cheers

Wag

I wouldn't buy it even if it was registered in the UK, you wanted £100 for it and Claudia Schiffer was naked on the back seat

As long as it is all done properly, I wouldn't have an issue with it but would expect to pay lot less than a UK car though. Also, how does it affect insurance? As they always ask if the car is an import or not

Good luck whatever decision you make

No impact to insurance at all which is good.

Coming from Oz is not an issue for UK insurers. Asia seems to be a premium etc

If it were me buying it id also barter for a good price, more so than a UK model.

Don't have to sell it, so it may just be a keeper!

3 yrs old next month and only done 12k miles

Cheers

I think you will take a big hit on price tbh.
Km will put alot of people off.
I'm sure it's a great car but the market won't like it.

I wish you well what ever you do however.

Do you need special 'imported car insurance'? Is the warranty valid in the UK? Are there any differences with the under body protection?

It will sell if it's priced right, I personally wouldn't touch it.

Out of interest, did you claim the luxury car tax back when you exported it?

Agreed.

Attempted to change it via main dealer who were gonna charge thru the roof for whole new cluster etc.

But then I heard/learnt/read (can't remember!) that you can't actually change it as there is potential for fraud etc in regards to changing distance travelled...

Anyone any thoughts on this?

Cheers

PX or sale, a big hit on price coming, sorry but these imports do not command good money.

Not what you want to hear, but no, wouldn't go near it unless it was significantly reduced. Have you done the worse case scenario, 'we buy any car' etc?

I'd be worried about warranty.

I was a service advisor when there was the boom in importing cars personally from Europe. People didn't understand that BMW AG only gave the vehicle one years warranty and it was BMW UK which topped it up to 3. Would Land Rover UK still honour the full warranty?

Yep.

Going in for its final warranty check next week as manufacturers warranty ends in July anyways.

Hmmm not sure that's true. But certainly another aspect to consider!

Na.

As I said just a thought atm and we both love the car so may well end up keeping it, as that was the intention when bringing her home!

No, would not touch an import, have bought the odd Japanese import in the past.

One of the major problems is things like alloys, Japanese or those destined for Oz etc, tend not to be protected for winter salty roads and rust like buggery.

Also as you mention the display is KM's, it's a right pain in tits driving around using km when everything is mph.

I would keep but get it well protected for UK roads, even consider new alloys.

I would check to see if the display can be updated to MPH / Miles.

I didn't realise there were any foreign JLR factories, except the eastern european one that's about to open.

Best guess it's worth min £2k less than UK market model; what year is it? You said it was approaching the end of warranty, is that 36m?

Personally I would pay to swap the cluster; so long as you are honest about it, and properly documented, there is no issue. It's only a problem if you try to reduce mileage, and deceive the buyer i.e. Lie.

MPH cluster and by the time it's 5 years old no one will care much that it spent time in AUS.

If you were going to change the cluster, do so before first MoT to avoid the mileage discrepancy.
