To fix this, do I need to replace the whole headlight?

While changing my grille from chrome to black yesterday, I noticed that the little pegs that hold the right headlight are broken.
This was definitely done by the previous owner because I have never touched them. Still, I have to fix this somehow. Can I just replace the little pegs, or is the only option buying new headlights?

You're talking about the headlight mounts?
If so, yes bmw sells kit to repair them. Except their kit only works if your headlight broke at a specific angle.
