USB wont read in car!

Hi all,

A friend of mine just brought himself a 62 plate BMW.

Trouble is he cannot play any music from his USB port under the arm rest.

Now I had a 62 plate BMW myself that I could play USB sticks from, so I

popped all 3 of them into my mates car and they would not play!!!

What possibly could be the reason for this?

They still play in my new car without any issues.

I think that the USB port cannot read the file format which is very odd.

Any ideas guys?

What iDrive is there on that car.

My MY14 car needed EBT specified to play music down the Lightning Cable from my iPhone on a standard non-navigation iDrive.

This may be the same for USB files.

Make sure that the USB drive is format via the FAT32 standard and not NTFS or OSX Extended etc. What format are the files in? MP4v for example?

I went through a fair bit of testing when specifying my car. But my memory is fuzzy with time. But, I do seem to recall that the basic iDrive without having EBT added could not read all the formats that any navigation equipped car or EBT equipped car could.

These options all added a combox under the boot floor. So, I think the difference is here. With this combox EBT could also be coded if not specified.

MP3 remember these played ok in my old 62 plate no problem and still play in my 65 plate no issues.

I'm quite sure that my old BM didn't have EBT because I didn't spec it.

Any how I have asked him to go back to the dealer.
