Software update
Just checked on line with bmw by putting in the VIN number and it says there is a software update available......sounds daft but what will this do? Will I see a difference in functionality?

I think that in newer cars this happens automatically, over the 4G connection, but older cars you need to do it manually. Genrally, you update by downloading a "bin" file that you copy to a USB stick that you then plug into the centre armrest USB port and tell the system to update from it. I have done this a few times now, all without incident... Oddly enough, I came onto the forum today to ask a question about this sort of thing as I have just bought a new phone (iPhone SE) to replace my ageing iPhone 5 and noticed that the sound quality over handsfree using the new phone was awful... Was about to ask if anybody else had noticed this but first noticed/read this post and checked the update notes... I see in the description of benefits of the update "Improves the audio quality when using the handsfree system. (Apple, Motorola and Samsung mobile telephones)"... So, it seems, I was perhaps not the only one to notice... Let's see if the update makes a difference..

Keep me posted as I am very reluctant to alter anything at the moment as everything seems to be working fine.....

The system recognised the update file OK and ran as it intended... Make sure you follow the instructions, both that you download with the file, and on the screen... The screen eventually says, for instance, turn off engine and wait for screen to go off... It can take a while for the screen to go off, so don't panic and try forcing things... I have no idea (yet) if this has resolved my iPhone SE sound issue over hands free, but I note that Apple's latest update also includes improvements to sound over bluetooth... So between the two, I am expecting an improvement..
