Retractable License Plate
Anyone planning to do this setup? I have to have front plates in Toronto, but I already ordered to not have front plate mount put on. I prefer to have a retractable plate system than tow hook, but i'm worried that it's not stiff enough to not be hitting my bumper at high speeds
What are your opinions? |

I thought about this on my E92 but it drastically reduced the bumper clearance..

I'm thinking this location so it won't affect the bumper clearance. But I read that you have to cut part of the mesh to fit the track...

I'd rather that then mounting it on the bumper. Any idea where that's sold? I've seen hidetheplate.com

man this looks sharp.. not sure I'm a fan of cutting much of anything tho. Tho I could probably get over it for the slick factor I'm thinking.

Could someone finally tell me what's the problem with the plate in the front? Okay, the european ones I'm used don't mess with the car as much as the ones in this state, but there bound to be one that has no picture of an eagle, bear, dear, football something, or a cowgirl, uni, or a veteran organization. I mean, how hard is it to make a design with only the numbers and letters? I don't want to look, I'm bound to make an arse of my self if I find out that you can't have one without the pictures.

Obviously, we want to give the cops a reason to pull us over so we can tell the cops how fast our Ms can go. In fact I just got pulled over a week ago for not having front plate. The cop didn't give me a ticket though because I told him I have had no front plate for 10 years on my car.
Actually, come to think of it, if I installed this retractable thing, I would just keep the front plate up all the time but retract it and I want to look sweetly at my car with my googly eyes.

Electronic Hidden Front License Plate
Has anyone installed a hidden front license plate on their M3/M4 yet? If so post some pics! What is the best one to go with and how did you install it?

Not trying to be adversarial but I don't understand the purpose of an electronic hidden license plate devise. If you are in a state that allows you to run a single plate, back only, then it's not needed.
If you reside in a state that requires rear and front plates, the second you fly by an officer and he sees you don't have a front plate, he pulls you over. The cop walks to the front of the car and surely will not be stupid enough to be fooled, as you just lowered the plate before you came to a stop for the officer to inspect the front bumper. Basically lowering the plate before a pullover is useless, no?

it's not an offense that even traffic cops like to deal with. meter maids and parking enforcers are another story - I think they're compensated for issuing them. |

You are correct but I'll add...With all the traffic speed cameras today, I think being pulled over by a cruiser is probably a good bet in cash strapped states looking for easy revenue. Here in DC/VA/MD we have traffic cameras everywhere.

Sorry OP for going off topic. If you Google search you can find a few manufactures that offer the hidden plate. Also there are quite a few posts here on the topic.

Personally, I find all the hysteria surrounding front plates comical.
Yes, I get it, the front end looks better without a plate on some cars, especially M3's. That's why I don't have one, despite being required in IL. I think that all the hide-away plates and the tow hook solutions are not very savvy. Either install the plate on a plate holder in the middle of the bumper the way the manufacturer intended OR don't install it at all and deal with the tickets. Why go throught the hassle of other alternatives? Every time I see a BMW with a tow hook plate, I can't help but laugh and notice how ghetto and pathetic it looks. Someone is willing to ruin the entire front end look for the sake of not having to drill two tiny holes in the bumper. Congratulations. Most people who do this are all about the "Euro" look. The irony being that in Europe every single M3 has a front license plate. It's required and nobody (and I emphasize nobody) has a problem with it. They don't use tow hook solutions either. |
