SSTT installed: need owner feedback

I just installed the SSTT on my E90 with step. Install was a breeze. I did the battery disconnect rather than putting it in sleep mode. I just took it out for a couple of WOT runs.

The car seems to have lost a good amount of torque and power under 4000 RPM. Whether I'm in full D, DS or Manumatic the power is definitely down from before the install. However, I can now feel the turbos surge very significantly at about 4500-5000 but anything below that feels weaker than before install.

Is this normal? Will the low end power and torque come back after a few days of driving? Is this just an issue of the ECU getting acclimated to the SSTT and/or because of the battery disconnect?

Also, I noticed the oil temps were running low (around 220-225 when normally they are about 240-245). When I parked the car I noticed the cooling fan was on full blast- which wasn't normal before the SSTT install.

Any feedback from longtime SSTT owners is appreciated.

Adaptation is the key bud. Give it a few days and you will really see a difference then!

It would take a good couple of days for it to fully adapt, especially after resetting the ECU. Do lots of variable driving and don't forget to WOT in between.

Mine didn't even really need to adapt. But possibly because you went with the battery disconnect method it will take longer.

i guess it depends on driving style, but adapting usually yeilds more power over time.

the car is probably just adpating back to ur driving style and u might FEEL as if u lost power.
if u really feel like something is up, uninstall the sstt, and try that.

Did anyone else experience a noticeable drop of torque in the low end? It really feels anemic off the line or at partial throttle (at low RPM) compared to stock.

Haven't experienced anything like it with mine. Though I was a bit disapointed myself at first. It's probably just in your head. Some people expecting night and day difference after install. Trust me you'll like more and more every time you drive it. Just give it some time and you’ll see.

OK let it go to sleep and went for another drive. Feels MUCH better now. All the low torque is back. Now I'm happy. Can't wait to see the results over the next few days. Thanks for the responses guys.

I purchased the SSTT last week and was installed by Jeff.

How can you tell if it is really making power. Maybe my butt dyno is not sensitive enough? 50lb-ft gain is significant, it should be quite noticeable even if I have a broken butt dyno.

I wonder if I might have a defective unit.

My reasoning, I have been driving it for 5 days straight and put on 350+miles since install. It has been underwhelming since day one. Under full acceleration off the line, doesn't chirp tire during 1~2 shift with both DSC/DTC off.

I removed the SSTT last night, and dropped off the car at dealer today to take care of headlight issues. Too my surprise, it drove exactly the same without SSTT. Removing it was easy as 1, 2, 3. Insert the guitar pick, pull the clip on the other side of plug, it slicomes right off. If I really try I can probably do it again in 15 seconds for both plugs. I love how easy it goes on and off, but where is my powar

Note: The car wasn't in sleep mode during the install. I forgot to lock the car, but Jeff said it is ok. Maybe it is not ok after all?

Love my SSTT. It's just perfect for me. I can break traction in second on demand. When I first installed it, I couldn't break traction in second. The real icing on the cake is the installation and removal. Even a chimp could do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

funny u mention the manager at my dealership has a bunch of mods on his car and wants to get a tune. he is really cool about warranty and stuff and i kno him for years, good friend of mine. he took a spin in my car and loved it. we did a few races and the difference in stock power and SSTT is really a tell all story when racing.. i mean it was like he wasnt even trying. btw he put in his order for a SSTT.
