Dinan and ECU removal

Does anyone know why they have to take the ECU for the Dinan flash on '08 cars?

Have any '08s done it? What was the total time you were without your car?

From what anyone is hearing will this change in the future?

Thought they changed that recently...don't have to remove for 08 anymore. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Most stealerships dont have to remove them anymore....

They should no longer require removing the ECU to be shipped to Dinan.

You guys are right! They can flash 08's at the dealerships now.

Not all dealerships have the proper cables. The ones that do can flash your ecu. I called up Dinan and asked them why the dealership a mile down the road cant while the one 25 miles can and he told me that not all dealerships are equiped with the proper cables.

Is this a proprietary cable from Dinan? If so...

Not only is Dinan making a killing on the flash ($2K), but I'd be willing to bet that there's a hefty charge for the cable too!

My dealer flashed mine and washed the car in about an hour.

There is no charge for the cable for the customer.

Im not sure why not every dealer has them. He said something to me on the phone but when I realized my car didnt have an oil cooler he began to sound like the guy from Charley Brown. wha wha wha

yes, for sure if you have the i. I believe it depends on the tire package for the xi.
