Weird MOT Advisory

OK, so I've got a 2010 330D with 78k on the clock and no issues with the 2 MOTs since I've had it.

Just passed this years MOT with one advisory:

"No emissions detected"

Do you think they forgot to start the engine or should I apply to DVLA for exemption from road tax?

On the new system its a generic statement (system changed over to a 100% web based product some months ago and the terminology's changed)but as diesels these aren't subject to emissions test only smoke test

Ah, the explanation - thanks. The guy in the garage obviously didn't have a clue as all he told me was that some BMWs and Audis are so low that they can't be measured.

The guy in the garage is correct. I have encountered many BMWs that do not register anything on the smoke test.

Its weird that such a statement shows on a document really we're a BMW specialist we use the latest MOT test equipment from Boston and from memory I know what the statement indicates but I've never seen this on one of out MOT's as these cars aren't meant to register for an emissions test only smoke therefore I think the terminology needs to be 're jigged' to help avoid confusion due to how it's displayed on the MOT document advisory section.

I know when the new system was launched some months back we were pre warned that certain 'tweeks' we're going to have to take place in all areas which the old system was better suited IMO

But surely an advisory is to indicate a fault that isn't serious enough to warrant a failure. Having a level so low that it doesn't register can't be a fault and so surely nothing should have been mentioned.

Hence the need to re jig things a bit to make things 'clearer to avoid confustion' hence this very post

How strange, but I guess it's similar to engine cover obscuring view or something like that. Always thought that was a strange 'fault'.
