looks pretty sleek Greg, it would match really well if you had aluminium trim. Too bad its not illuminated.

Yes, it would go good with aluminum trim. But if you do the handbrake handle and pedals in aluminum it would tie in, as well.

i'm currently overseas and my zhp short knob is waiting for me back home.
hope it reduces the knob travel distance to my satisfaction... but not illuminated though... cheers pic of knob on a 6 series. |

In my communication with Rogue Engineering on SSKs for this car, they said BMW did a pretty good job stock. Only criticism was the knob was too LOW, making interference with the console armrest.

gregW - i take your point, but i'll try out the shorter knob and see what it feels like.
however, mantis just raised a good point on another thread. the knob is "connected" to the boot leather. so the question is, how do we remove the knob without cutting the leather? Change the boot as well? can't seem to find it... cheers. |

I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up or if it was just me. My SG/FR is coming in two weeks and I've been debating about the shift knob. I opted for CF trim, so I don't want a knob that's chrome. I also don't want a riced out, Tokyo Drift type shift knob. I found the shift knob below on the bmwusa website. I like how the brushed ring at the bottom will match the idrive wheel. As posted earlier, though, I'm not sure whether it will be compatible in light of the fact that the existing shift knob is a "one piece"

I believe the standard 3 series boot should work, with the knob of your choice. Or get a boot from LeatherZ to match your upholstery.

You cut the boot at the top, the new knob should cover the cut up nicely!!!

+1 to that, don't order a shorter knob until you have tried the stock one for a few days.

Funny, the knob really should´t lower the stock set up at all!!!

I didn't even know the M DKT cars were out yet!!! Can we get some pics? And if it is the M DKT, I would probably not change the knob on it. I don't think there is a nice conversion kit out there. I could be wrong though.
