335i recalls
BMW NA is going to recall all 335i's to reprogram the ECU to handle more turbo boost. This is what I heard from my SA this morning. According to him the stock power would rise to ~375hp..... Is there any truth to this rumor?

70,000 335i's recalled to reprogram car = $$ per hour, Loaner ,etc
at 200 a car that would be $14,000,000 ... dont think its gonna happen. ppp edit: not to mention the overheating concerns, 335i's without oil coolers. Besides why would bmw put more stress on the drivetrain etc... If there is another angle I'm missing it.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is! A recall when the current setup already makes more HP and Torque than BMWs published stats?
Hello McFly! Are you really asking this question, or do you think it might be true? If so, I have a bridge to sell you.

Your local Service Advisor (SA) has the inside scoop on product development?
Think for a moment. Why in the world would they do that when the M3 is rated at 400hp. |

It's true! I read the memo!
They're also throwing in a free LSD retrofit for all 335is and swapping out the tires with non-RFTs.

Guys... I was as shocked as you were when I heard it. Infact I told him 'thanks for yanking my chain' and he was like ...its true.. BMW has been contemplating this since the 335 came out (which I still doubt), but he claims it to be true so I just accept it with a grain of salt. Yes, it 'may' make the M3 obsolete but then again, it may not.The 335 with a few mods can compare to the M3 on paper, but as far as the drive goes, its like comparing apples to oranges. The 'M's are specialised cars like the RS's and in this day and age when the power offered by something that costs 30K (Pontiac GTO) can almost match what a 200K ferrari from maranello can offer (at least on paper), to be that shocked and surprised is a little strange... with that being said, I would watch this space.
And if you really think about it... the M3 has been jinxed since it came out... for christs sake the C63 costs less and with a boat load more power and torque.. then there is the matter of that little IS-F. the E46 M3 was the undisputed leader of the pack... the S4 and the C32 and 55 were literally picking off of the crumbs left by the M3. This time round is different, and I think BMW realises this. The way I see it the e90/ 92 M3 MAY not sell as many units as the E46, so if BMW is smart, they would increase the power on the 335 and sell it ..I see it as the biggest cash cow that they can reap off of. Also, I have an uncanny ability of reading off of people when they are bluffing (being myself responsible for a lot of duress .... all in fun ofcourse... caused to my family and friends.) I think this kid was not lying. He may have been mis informed, but he wasnt lying. Thats y I asked the question on here since a lot of you are VERY well informed.

I just received a letter from BMW Financial Services and they are cutting my lease payment in half for the remainder of my term. The reason given to me by BMW was, "just for the hell of it".

I heard this as well. Except they are actually phasing out the 335 due to all the fuel pump problems. When you go to pick up your car they are actually replacing it with an M3.

Guys,
STOP bustin his chops , he just repeated what the SA told him... AND if you would have taken the time to call BMWNA you would have found out the truth. 2008 1/2 model year twin turbo cars will receive a performance boost to increase to 330hp. Additionally this update will be avail for PURCHASE (price not avail) for existing twin turbo cars that meet certain requirements (not avail yet). you guys are rough some times. ppp

On a more serious note, those of us who bought and installed the Dinan Flash (for two grand) are going to be pissed becuase basically everyone gets what we paid money for. So what does that do for us? Refund? is Dinan going to have to reprogram their reprogram for the reprogram BMW is going to do on our cars? This doesnt make sense. Ill believe it when I see it. |
