i need some advice on intakes...

so I've looking into some performance mods nothing crazy I'm on a budget but i was leaning toward the simota cf intake but now i was looking at some dinan stuff since there the same price 400bucks...so i have three options 1) get the simota 2) the dinan Ram Air Intake Assembly or 3) the dinan High Flow Throttle Body

I have no clue which one is better but i know the dinan gives an extra 6hp unlike the simota which only gives 1hp lol... I also want a deeper sound from the engine so I'm not sure which would best suit my needs. any input would be appreciated guys

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the intake until you're much further along in your modding. Your money is probably spent better elsewhere.

$0.02.

dinan TB is a sweet mod... but i'd start with simota, thats what i have and I love it. wouldn't make sense to have a bored out throttle body with a stock air filter not giving it anything.

also interested. so no AFE is mentioned? uncomparable?
I know the intake shouldn't be taken seriously for the increase in power, i reckon it as a sound/cosmetic improvement. i thought dinan ones are quieter?

there was a member that added the Dinan TB with a Gruppe M replica intake, and he dyno'd the car, and he actually lost power.... if im not mistaken, it was ksfrogman.... do a search for dinan throttle body and itll come up...

the dinan ones are quieter.. but more effective.. and they dont make any sounds.. its pure performance..

soo if i video taped it .. all you would hear its the acs exhaust.

From my recollection of browsing this board, Dinan products (except for their exhausts for the 325/328/330) are useless. The intake is not louder than stock, so all you're paying for [basically] is the dinan emblem that you stick onto the intake box. As for the dinan performance throttle body, KSFROGMAN, or however you spell it, actually lost power with the throttle body.

Your best bet is to go w/ the GM-replica intake if you're looking for something cost effective. Otherwise, get the real Gruppe-M intake.

The removal of the OEM intake box is most of the "performance". Dinan ram air is ok, but I bet if you remove the carbon filter in the OEM box, it would be better. Simota is nice to look at and changes the intake sound. So sticking to your options, the better bang for the buck is the Simota.

Throttle body is ok too, but will work only if you have an intake and more free flowin exhaust.

Damn, good info Westwest888.

Makes me want to get my ecu re-programmed now. Regardless, from the drivers seat i can feel an increase in quickness with the Gruppe-M, As you said the throttle is more responsive. Not to forget the great sound of an intake. Both valid reasons to get one.

It raises doubt about the thoroughness of 3rd party software tunes. I've learned to live with the engine my car came with. The best you can do is free up the somewhat restrictive exhaust, which is designed with minimum emissions and minimum decibels in mind.

Consider the idea of crank power versus wheel power. Intake/exhaust mods will improve horsepower at the crank. But where performance happens for us is power at the wheels. A clutch plate type limited slip differential would increase traction and put more power to the ground.
+1
ECU flashes really aren't worth it. Also for NA cars, your mod-options are pretty limited. The best route to go, as West mentioned, is to work w/ exhaust components. Other than that, the gains are minimal and everything is for the sound.

moreover, ECU reflashes give me the jitters under the risk that something does go wrong.

The Supersprint system is nice but damn, that price! You could buy a small village for what they're asking for it!

http://www.ind-distribution.com/deta...make=44&part=1 looks interesting but around $2.5K for the race performance exhaust & S/R catback pipes. Even a Renn-Art exhaust system for 335i is cheaper.
