135i makes 279WHP and 295WTQ on a dynopack dyno
mwerks put there 135i spot on the dynopack dyno and got 279WHP and 295WTQ.. im not really good with dynos but doesnt this dyno make even more WHP then a dynojet? so what is the norm for this engine with wheels and tires on, 260WHP?

Any Dyno can read high and any Dyno can read low depending on how it is calibrated, what corrections are used, and by user error (entering the wrong gear ratio, etc). However, if all things are done correctly Dynapacks read higher since you remove the wheel and tire so you are measuring HP at the hub which generally is about half way between WHP and Crank HP.

You had your Evo dynod on all 3 wheels???? wtf?
jk I cant wait to see the 135i in person. Dosnt a 135i with a Steptronic sound very very fun! We are very lucky to have this car hit the US. It will be an instant classic. Huge HP and tight little package. |

From the results I have seen in person, same car, 4 different dynos, the dyno dynamics and mustangs read fairly similar and low. Those two are followed by the Dynapack and then the Dynojet. All things being equal and dynos being left in their factory calibrated spec, that is usually the trend. So, I essentially second what M3This said.
PS - Any dyno pull after a change made for more power is worthless without a baseline/benchmark. |

Don't you take off the rear wheel to do a dynopack dyno? If so, I thought for sure they would read higher than the dynojets.

I have only dyno'd my cars on a dynojet, but from what I have seen over the years you *usually* see higher #'s from a dynapack.

also, the 1 series is about 200 lbs lighter (according to BMWUSA).. I don't know if that makes a difference though.. but it should only on the torque side at least.. not the horsepower side..

Makes no difference in dyno figures. Makes a noticeable difference in acceleration. It's like having a fat guy in your car, as opposed to no one in your car.

In my experience, typically the dynapaks read the highest, then dynojet, then mustang and dyno dynamics with the last two reading very close.
Keep in mind any dyno can be calibrated to read differently from other dynos even if from the same mfr. Dyna paks typically read higher as it is not a load based dyno and the HP is measured at the hub and not the wheels. |
