Pop goes the stock CP ... 2015 M235i N55

m235I with jb4, ~25% e85 on 91 octane.

Was on the freeway, 6th gear (6 speed manual), Throttle about 75% to pass a car when I heard a loud pop and car immediately signals drivetrain malfunction.

My car didn’t go into limp mode at all, still has power.

I’ll check my cp tonight but I thought my car was supposed to go into limp mode from cp blowing?

The charge pipe issue in conjunction with JB4 is not news, I'm sorry it happened though!

ER charge pipe is in your future. Don't replace it with another OEM!

If still in warranty, get the dealer to get you a new one with all new o-rings and c-clips. Then switch it out for the ER.

There's a reason why I haven't tuned my car yet :P

Grab the ER Chargepipe from one of the sponsors here, they'll give ya a great deal.

I’ll inspect further tonight but here is a pic of the cp to throttle body connection.

Doesn’t seem like there’s a crack though and everything is still> in tact ...

Car runs fine, drivetrain malfunction went away a second after the popping sound, though I shift before 2k now to be safe.

probably just a hole busting through the piston, nothing to worry about.

If everything looks good and no sign of Cp failure, check the codes on the Jb4

I'd wager it's your HPFP giving up since you're running some E85, also that 6th gear pull

Any recommendations on his to check the underside of the cp?

What does 6th gear pull have to do with it though? And I wasn’t gunning it, it was like a 75% throttle. I think I’d get CEL or go into limp mode if its HPFP?

Did a Google of HPFP failure: long crank, engine dying at idle, CEL, all of which I don’t have

That drivetrain malfunction is your limp mode. If it went away, then its likely the HPFP crashing, at least that was what happened to me when running E85 and lots of boost. Also, because you were demanding so much torque and boost for your overdrive/cruising gear, you put a lot of pressure on your HPFP to deliver fuel to the motor causing it to tap out. 75% throttle is practically full boost on these cars, just downshift from now on. I don't think I've ever had to go past 30-40% throttle in 6th.

Your chargepipe looks fine in the picture and you will certainly notice a boost leak if it failed. Regardless though, I'd change it since you're running a jb4.

Did you also experience a loud but muffled "pop" sound coming from what sounded like the engine when that happened?

My malfunction error came and went away immediately after the pop.

Yes, no boost leak AFAIK and turbo still spools (from listening to it while driving).

No pop for me, fuel was just cut even though my foot was to the floor.

Try to scan your car for codes and see if anything comes up.

Since some CPs are breaking even on stock cars and you're running a tuned vehicle, I would be budgeting to get a ER CP because you're almost certainly on borrowed time with the stock one.

Sure looks like a crack to me?!

Mine popped yesterday, no limp mode, but acceleration was obviously lacking. Stock boost (only mod is a DP) and 25k miles. I could tell right away what happened. Mine came completely off of the throttle body:

I ran my stock one on my X1 35i with a Dinan stage 2 tune for 2.5 years before it popped, but it did fail. 4 days before I had to travel for work (Murphy's law)

The first pic is definitely cracked, and the second pic seems to be the most common failure style / point.
