Coolant expansion reservoir leaking horribly.. Need to find new one ASAP..

So I got a low coolant light and when i went to top off fluid i saw coolant dripping out from where the top of the reservoir and the bottom of the reservoir are mated together the other day, right near the vacuum canisters.. And today i went to install my cp and bov and i noticed dried water on my engine cover and upon examination after a short drive I saw spewing coolant coming out of the back of that same sealing area on the expansion tank so I imagine my reservoir is shot.. Somebody mentioned that they had this happening to them as well and they found one for $35 brand new and it worked perfectly, so I'm just wondering if that person is still around and if so do they remember where they got it from because the cheapest ones I found are on eBay and they're used for like $60 to $100..?? I went on realoem and it seems like our expansion tanks are not for sale on there anymore and I know the dealership is gonna tax.. If anybody else knows where I can get one for the cheap or also knows which ones are universal for our cars I'd greatly appreciate it.. When I searched on eBay it links e series, z4s, x models, etc all to the same reservoir but mine doesn't look like all of those as I believe ours are vehicle specific, but not 100% sure..

Thanks!!

EDIT: Video for reference in case anyone else experiences this..

Thought about that, but didn't know if it would withstand the heat..

Thanks for the link, if I can't find one for the cheap I'll keep it in mind.. The thread I read was only about 1.5yrs old so I'm hoping the $35 version is still available lol..

Interested as well. Mine only leaks if it sits for long periods of time (more than 3-5 days) so it's not really an issue.

Found an oem one brand new with 2 yr warranty on ebay for $43.. I thought about trying jb weld for now but it said it will be here in 2-3 days so probably won't even mess with it, and drive my other car for time being..

Yeah I researched and researched and researched, and found that they pretty much all use the same manufacturer for them so for half the price and a 2 year unlimited warranty, I figured I'd give it a shot.. Plus shipping is only 2 days whereas most others were over a week out..

Man, it's posts like these that make you realize what a joke ECS is when it comes to their prices and even more when you see their shipping charge. This isn't 2004, they need to realize that they have actual competition nowadays. Thank god for eBay and other retailers like FCP Euro.

Amen... I know some snicker at eBay for certain items, but for things like this, and companies with 11k feedbacks at 99.9% rating haha, I'll give it a shot..!

You did the right thing. I go to eBay first because shipping is usually free (and fast) and the item is cheaper 9/10 times. Many times the eBay seller provides a warranty too. I bought 6 ignition coils for my car and one went bad in 5k miles. I emailed the seller and he said they have warranty and I can send it in for an exchange or full refund! Damn that's good service.

Not to turn this into an ECS bash thread but I was going to order a metal clutch pivot pin from them before doing my clutch about a month ago and they had the audacity to charge $9-12 for shipping for a tiny object the size of a socket which can be mailed for less than $2 in the continental US. Most businesses have business accounts with shipping companies so they pay way less for the actually shipping. That's why I know it's just ECS' way to pile on a few more bucks for themselves on top of an already overpriced item. Rant over.

BTW, sorry to hear about your expansion tank issues. Issues that revolve around the cooling system frustrate me the most because they usually involve a mess to clean up lol.

Haha amen, and I agree with you as well especially because it's not just ECS, it's other sites also that you go to for the simplest shit and end up getting raped on pricing somehow or another..

And yeah man cooling issues suck, mostly because even after you fix it and go to drive around, you're like "is it really fixed..??" lol..

BeastMode335i When you replaced your expansion tank, did you bleed the system, or did you just top off the tank once you were done?

Yeah I bled it twice once it was installed and topped off, had quite a bit of air in there too so I'd definitely recommend it..

Ah awesome, thanks for the info. I have a little over a gallon of mixed solution, I'm hoping that'll be enough.

Yeah that's about exactly what mine took, about a gallon so I'd say you'll be fine.. Just follow the bleeding procedure (accessory on, hold pedal down, heat on high, yada yada yada) and you sure should be fine.. Good luck!

Just finished this job, man that was simple. The bottom hose clamp was a challenge to get loose, but overall, 20 mins and I was done. Bleeding process was unbelievably simple.

Thanks for the info!
