Bought new Mich PSS - Manuf Date is 2 Years Old
I've been looking forward to getting my rears replaced with a fresh set of Mich PSS 275/30R19. Its spring so thought Id be getting the latest inventory. Got them today but I was a little disappointed when I noted that the manufacturing date was 1514 (15th week of 2014) just barely under the two year mark. Its not like they were on sale or clearance. Retailer told me it was a direct recent shipment from Michelin and that they ship as long as the it is less than 2 years old. Can anyone validate this?
I didnt make a big deal out of it since they are my rear tires and Id be lucky to get 3 seasons out of them. My DWs lasted 25k miles. Tires have a shelf life of 5-6 years I believe. What are your thoughts? Would you be OK with if you got 2 year old tires? Edit: sorry posted in wrong section.. Last edited by nitehawk; 04-07-2016 at 08:09 AM.. |

I wouldn't be happy given how finicky PSS's can be. If you blow on them the wrong way they start to have issues. Some have had great luck and others have been disappointed.
275's are pretty wide. I bet they look good. (Any rubbing?) I've been running 265's (PSS's) in the rear with 10 mm spacers and feel like I rub on very rare occasion. Back on subject... I would return them. The PSS's are very particular about cold temps. If they weren't stored correctly over the last two years they could be ruined... |

They will be fine , mich keeps a bank up of there tires so they are able to meet demand. Sunlight/uv rays is what hurts the tires the most .

Will find out if they rub. I previously had DW's in the same size, with mild rubbing only on rear passenger side on hard dips. Will play with alignment and fender roll if needed to avoid rubbing. I dont want to deal with the hassle of exchanging and repaying for mounting/restocking fees unless necessary. Michelin has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, I'm thinking to put them on and if any issues to take them back.. I'll feedback here accordingly. Last edited by nitehawk; 04-06-2016 at 10:13 PM.. |

This was from tire rack? They keep a rotating inventory, with all the volume they move. Local shops on the other hand...

If it's a local shop, I'm not surprised at all. All the tires I've gotten from TR have had a DOT date only a few months old.

I ordered a pair of PSS last fall from Discount Tire Direct. They were also a few years old. Still sitting in the basement waiting for warm weather...

Man 2 years is nothing. Save yourself a headache of exchanging, re-mounting and just drive on those tires.
4 years is where I would draw the line. |

2 year is not too bad if stored properly. It just goes to show how long it takes to move inventory sometimes. I bet they were happy to finally offload them.

2 years old should not be a problem, just as long as the tires have been stored properly. Meaning, they have been stored in a climate controlled warehouse, where there is no direct sunlight. If the tires have been stored properly, they should perform like new for at least 4-6 years. Tire Rack has even tested tires that have been stored in our warehouse for years and they performed like new. It really all comes down to how the tires are stored.
When purchasing tires locally, there is always a risk of getting a slightly older tire because the local shop's inventory does not turn over as quickly as a large retailer like Tire Rack. The tires may sit in Michelin's warehouse for a short while, then get sent to a wholesaler where they sit till a shop orders them. The local shop has to stock their inventory based on what they sell the years before. If no one comes in and is looking for the specific tires they have in stock, they may sit on those for a couple years. What you need to be suspicious of shops that store their tires in the showroom or worse, shops that will put the tires outside to attract attention. If you ever see tires sitting outside, stay far away. With all that said, I do not think you will have a problem with the 2014 production tires. They still come with a full Michelin warranty. I would drive on those tires. And if you drive like most of us, you will wear those PSS'S out long before they dry rot. |

I'm running 285's on mine with no problems. I did a slight roll to reduce the rare occasional rub. Remove your spacer and you can run 285's just fine. |

I paid for 4 brand new PSS the other week and noticed that my front tires were PS2's. Looks like I'm not the only one getting snaked by tire stations...
