Garage door opener help

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to reset my universal garage door opener on my car and get it to work with my current door opener. Maybe my garage door motor/system is too old? Anyone else have this issue? It's making my head spin haha.

If I recall correctly you need the actual garage remote. I had to first erase the codes on the mirror. Then you have to hold down on the garage remote plus a button on the mirror. It will blink green once it memorizes the sequence. I then had to push the button on the garage opener to learn a new remote and then press the button on the BMW mirror to make it work. I read on the manual how to do this. Hope this helps.

To erase all codes programed in the garage door unit, you need to press and hold for 20 or 30 seconds the LEARN button, at least on my unit.

Hi friend,
BMW use HOMELINK hardware for the universal garage door opener. You can found here info about HOMELINK: www.homelink.com/home/welcome

If your garage door use 400mhz frequency or an old system/hardware is too easier for than the remote work. Otherwyse I'm not sure you can link you BMW remote if your door garage use the "rolling code system".

In attachment you can find the official HOMELINK BMW help manual. I'm sorry but is it in italian language (try with Google Translate or ask me if you have problem to translate it).

I hope to help you, and sorry for my poor english... I need to stay some weeks in the USA with some BMW-friends to learn english, talk about ours BMW and drink beer!

I wish I could help. It does work with a rolling code model. That's what mine is and I eventually got it to work. But it took about an hour of trying, and pressing buttons, and climbing up ladders, and jumping back in car etc.

I recall that it wasn't as simple as holding the remote up against your mirror in the car and "learning" the code. I had to muck with buttons on the opener unit too. It was a rather frustrating experience, but it works.
