Sunroof operation :)

I have a simple question. Is it possible to "put in" a sunroof in a standard E90? Any idea of what the cost would be for such a operation? I´m curious...

No. The whole roof is different (reinforced) when you order the sunroof.

It is possible, at least in the USA, to have an aftermarket sunroof installed though it is not as versitile as the factory design. Aftermarket sunroofs usually limited to those that flip up in the rear and/or may be removed completely.

I'm sure aftermarket companies, such as sunshine sunroof or webasto could do something like that, but aftermarket sunroofs are known to leak and generally not be good.

While I am not a particular fan of sun roofs, I don't agree with the breadth of Broken1's statement with respect to leakage. I would think that both the supplier and the installer are important and that as with most things, some are better than others. I know of quite a few people who have installed or had aftermarket sunroofs installed who were happy with the result. I agree that the aftermarket designs that are, to my knowlege available today do involve compromises as was noted in my earlier post. My E 90 hs a sunroof that hasn't been opened since new. I guess I better check it before I take the car to the dealership for service. The Germans think Americans are crazy for wanting both air conditioning and sun roofs. <g>

I ordered my sunroof for the sunlight, not the ventilation. I keep the glass closed 99.9% of the time, but never draw the blind.

I would definitely not suggest that. You will destroy the value of the car, and it could look horrible and leak depending on how much you pay. The sunroof is worthless anyways, I never ever use mine.

Thanks for the answers. I also thought it could be risky to install an aftermarket sunroof, just wanted other people to confirm it.

I didnt order the sunroof mainly for two reasons. First one is I live in Sweden (wont really have any use for it). Second is I heard they lower the roof a bit, and that could be hard for tall people like me.

Yes, sunroofs: cost $, add weight where you do not want it, and lower headroom. That said, they do brighten things up a bit sensu cabrio, and allow for improved detection of airborne police.
