My TIRES are shot ALREADY!!!

One of my rear OEM tires blew today, run flat system kicked in and got me to the local tire shop.

19K miles and the outside edges of tires look like normal wear, but INSIDE EDGES---yikes, the one that went was worn down to the wires. Anyone experienced this kind of wear?

GoodYear dealer says this is not normal, check your tires carefully folks... looks like I'm off to the BMW dealer to see what's causing this.

That's all you get from RFT's, about 19K is max. The handling on ANYTHING will be better than the RFT's. I like the F1, GSD3's so do lots on the forum.

Fronts have plenty of wear left on them.

I would rather get the F1's they are considerably less $$$ and I know they ride softer too.
RUN FLATS X 2 = 800.00 OTD
F1's X 4 = 1,000.00 OTD

I was asking about the F1's but dealer is having a hard time getting them quickly. One tire shop told me 6 - 7 days, wth?

Goodyear was able to get the Potenzas tomorrow, a lot faster than the F1's???
go figure. I'll call him again tomorrow about the F1's and see what he says... they have not got them yet, they are due in tomorrow.

Will the F1's detract from the laser handling of the car?
BMW says the car is designed for run flats? oh brother...

Michelin PS2s. Best street tire available IMHO.

lucky you got 19k out of performance tires.

rear have more camber, and also drives the car(wheel spin and more stress) so it will wear faster than the fronts.

I didn't realize these tires were only good for 20K miles...

Hmmm, are the F1's only a 20K mile tire also?
If that's true then maybe I should just get the cheaper tires, and go with the F1's... I'm starting to think the RFT's are not really worth it.

Just bought my 2nd set of F1's and I made it from 20K to 50+, so they were 30K tires...doing the math. I'd wait for the F1's. I've heard the RE's that Yal has are better than the RFT's but not as good as the F1's. There are a couple of F1's models. Mine are GSD3's that are actually called summer tires. But I live in Calif and never go to the snow.

Oh, and don't mix RFT's with non RFT's. And, why were you not rotating them every few months? Lol!!

i got 23k out of my GY F1's(driving pretty harsh) and still had tread remaining before i changed out for M wheels/tires. I probably could have gone 5k more until the bare wires showed but I never push my luck that far lol

if you get cheaper tires...your Z will not be the same... I had a Pirelli P Nero Zero ALL SEASONS and significantly reduced car's handling and performance. i can recommend Hankook K104 sports, equal performance as Michelin Pilot Sports(previous experience ...original-pilots replacements K104's)

Tried three retailers, Goodyear headquarters says F1's are back ordered for weeks. Looks like it's back to the RFT's for now.

please don't go back to RFT's...you need to fully experience the car. Why do I feel like I am preaching sex without a condom here?

F1's suck in the rain. Just my opinion. If you can get 'em I highly recommend the Nitto Invos. These are an amazing tire. Never have I felt so much grip before! And they're amazing in the rain too. Cost me around 800 for a staggered set. (18")

If its worn to hell down the middle of your tire, this indicates over inflation. Check your tire pressures.

Does anybody like any of the non-summer tires? All of the summer tires say "Not meant to be driven in near freezing temperature" Which rules out half the year for me.

Is that a warning more for liability or is it for real?

It's real. The compound used on summer tires is meant to be softer in warm weather to maximize grip.

Cold weather makes the compound hard and doesn't grip well. Personally I wouldn't run summer tires once it gets around 5*C or lower.

I don't really notice anything on my RFTs so I thought I would ask. I don't know if that says something good about RFTs winter performance or something equally bad about their summer performance

Perhaps I'll get some Blizzaks for the stock rims when I get my new rims this spring

I have F1s on my TA, I always felt they had much better rain traction than I expected from a tire designed to simulate a slick under hard acceleration. Also cheaper than the PS2, and IMO look much cooler... PS2 treads look like something my dad would have bought from Sears for his '76 Granada.
