Problems going into 2nd gear...

Under hard acceleration, and fast shifting, my car has trouble going into 2nd gear. Last night, it did not want to go in at all, and all that happened was a lot of grinding, even when I pressed the clutch in all the way. Anyone know what it could be? All I can think of is the synchro or maybe the CDV?

Thanks

Robert

The CDV is partially responsible for this... removing it will definitely help. I had this issue too. Though it seems it will still occasionally do it with the CDV out. I am waiting to try out a shift kit like the AA or UUC one to see if this is remedied.

I have the same exact problem as you do. It is VERY annoying and it only seems to occur when the engine is in high RPM's.

I think the CDV has more to do with the engage/disengage of the clutch, rather than affecting gears going in. I could be wrong tho . I have the same problem now, and had a similar problem in my previous E46. To a certain degree, I think you just gotta accept it.

Does this happen when the car is not fully warmed up?
I've noticed my 2nd gear is very notchy when the car is cold and I have the modified CDV valve.
But I have not experienced what you have. If you keep on grinding it will get worse so try to avoid it as much as possible.

Change your CDV it will help some. Hopefully a better shift kit will help too.

Hey Vince,

Since we are talking about clutches, whatever happened to that clutch you had ordered?

Im glad to know that Im not the only one, but I really do hope that the CDV mod helps this. Is this mod easy to do?

I don't have the grinding issue, but it just feels really notchy when trying to go into 2nd gear. The CDV did help out a lot, but that 1 to 2 shift just feels real notchy, but I felt this in my Evo too... so idk..

It is on the car right now.. its loud and chattery and holds the power(I guess) and sounds like every other Aftermarket clutch I have ever used. But feels like a BMW clutch. Not very happy and it will be removed ASAP.
