Oyster Dakota Leather - dye transfer
Thought you might be interested in a couple of pics showing how the Oyster interior stands up to wear and tear (if you don't look after it). So the first pic shows what the driver's seat was like after just 3,500m - this is without any prior treatment or cleaning. I tend to wear black or dark blue jeans a lot of the time which do get washed frequently so I reckon this is more down to dye transfer than 'dirt'. The second pic is after having a go at the seat for 5-6 mins with Mr Sheen Leather Wipes - not ideal I know, but it got the worst of it off.
Plan now is to invest in something 'proper' for cleaning every other week, e.g. Dr Leather wipes, and to have the interior detailed/protected in a couple of months time when I get the whole car done. I still like the Oyster interior and would choose it again as it makes the inside of the car a brighter/nicer place to be, and with a bit more money & effort than I've invested in the last 4 months (been crazy busy at work - is my excuse), there's no reason why it (edit) shouldn't stay looking nice. (Lighting was a bit different between the two shots but hopefully gives an idea).

*shouldn't
I used Dr Leather Dye Guard when I got my ivory leather. Every month I wipe the seats with Dr Leather wipes. It is a 5 minute job. They are 6 months old and still like new. Dye does transfer to the seats but wipes off. I must add, my stitching hasn't darkened like in those photos so I'm wondering if the Dye Guard has prevented that? |

Yes, I opted for the contrasting stitching on mine.

I'd say if you fancy it then go for it. Probably easier to keep looking nice than say Black Sapphire bodywork?

And another vote for Dr Leather wipes and Dye block.
I've just cleaned out some jeans dye from my Corral Red seats. It wasn't even hard work either. I was totally amazed how well they work.

A) using something like dr leather dye block is either necessary or would provide any benefit B) using the dr leather wipes is necessary (eg would any old wipes be fine given a gtechniq L1 treatment) ? |
