Hit a Pothole - Now a Vibration (I think?!?)

I hit a pretty big pot hole this morning and I now think there is a vibration. It obviously isn't horrible as I think it may be in my head. I did a quick inspection of the tire and nothing is noticible. TPMS doesn't indicate any issues. There are still weights on the rim (stick-on) and I don't notice any of them missing.

I'm guessing the first step is to go to a tire store and have them balance the tires.

The tires are Blizzak-LM 22 RFT on Rial Salreno Rims. Too months old on a two month old 335i. Purchased from Tire Rack.

Anyone have any other recommendations or should I just go to a local shop and have them do a balance?

Thanks!

Try to find a place that'll road force balance that wheel. Hopefully it just needs to be balanced, however if the hit was hard enough, some suspension components could have been bent resulting in poor alignment.

I've had a pretty a lot of experience with bent rims and such driving in NY/Nj... :-)

1) Do you feel the vibration mostly in the seat (rear wheels) or steering wheel (front wheels)?

2) Did you check the inner lips of the wheels? (those are the most likely part to get bent or cracked) - the best way to check is to put the car up and rotate the wheel - you should be able to see the wheel wobble if it has a major bend in it

3) Based on #1 I would personally go to have the wheels re-balanced - they will be able to tell you if the wheel is bent when they put it on the machine and spin it around...

good luck...

Yeah, depending on where the vibration is coming from and how bad it is, the culprit could be on one of many things, definitely have a garage check it out.

This is usally wheel weights (stick ons) flying off from the salt/sand and then a nice jolt. start there. could be a balance issue as well. a shop should be able to re-balance all 4 in about 30mins. they'll also be able to get a close look at each rim, and see if there are any dents, or misshapen lips. if still nothing, then get the car ona lift and see if any of the front end is bent underneath.

The inner rim was bent and was very obvious while spinning it on a balancer. (Good call Black335!) Ordered a replacement Rim from Tirerack today. Unfortunatly it is shipping from Baltimore. (When it ships from South Bend it will get here the next day)

Fortunatly, it isn't too bad and I can still drive it. Another good reason to have a winter setup. The Tire Rack rim was much cheaper than a replacement OEM would have been with my 18s.

On an interesting side note. I first went to a Firestone store this morning since I have Blizzaks. (Thought if there was a tire problem, they could replace easiest). They told me it was going to be $100 to do a balance since I had 17 inch Rims. I thought WTF. (I may have even said that!). I went down the street to a Just Tires and got the spin for $15.)

Did they see a BMW and think dollar signs?

Thanks everyone for the responses.
