Damn dealers
Keeping in mind one of the main selling points of going to BMW is the dealers... It's amazing how bad they can be.
This time round it's been a little smother, but today they really annoyed me. I'd called about black grills yesterday and as usual they never returned my message. Went in to collect my summer wheels (because they charge so much to store them!) and sign some paperwork on the new car today so checked on the grills. The service manager helped me put the wheels in the car, apologised that I didn't get a call about the grills (good so far) and - explained that as my new car was going to have its inspection anyway, fitting the grills should be a quick job and may even be free. So he called me on the way home, tail between his legs... £240 for the grills and fitting. Apparently it's an hours work so about £140 for the fitting! Certainly changed his tune So will be looking for the cheapest Dealer to get the parts and will try and fit myself. |

Cancel it and go elsewhere ok a bit extreme but you get the point and the dealer most certainly should. Ring the salesperson, explain that it's in there best interest to get the grilles fitted for free and remind them that you'll be delighted to fill out BMW GB's customer survey on how you have been dealt with during your purchase, I'd also suggest an umbrella is in the boot as well

If a spark was wiring your new extension, for say £2000 (which is probably more than the profit the dealer has in the car), would you expect him to add an extra fused spur in the kitchen for free?

I ordered mine aftermarket, perfect fitment and quality and put them on myself, I basically pulled them with force and they pop right out, then you just put the new ones in and the click right in. Grills costed me 100$ CAD with shipping |

If one dealer is quoting £35, it can only be a 10-15 job??
On a side note Englishbloke, did you get 4 wheels/tyres in your F30? I've got to pick up my fathers winter wheels at the weekend and wonder whether they'd go in mine?. Cheers

That's waaaaay too much as said above the grilles are about £80/90 or so quid and fitting can be done yourself in 15 mins or so.
Plenty of people have put up instructions on how to DIY. If you can't / be arsed to find give me a shout and I'll tell you how I did mine.

that is a joke. To change the front grills they just need a sharp pull to pull out the old and push and new ones clip in place.
Its not exactly a new spur for kitchen more like asking a sparky to change a wall plate while doing another big job.

2 wheels went in the boot. 2 on the back seats. However, the wheels are too wide for the back so the tyres rubbed the rear door handles. Shame, as the car was otherwise spotless when I took it in. The wheels were sitting on cardboard which was fine for the seats but I think you need to consider partially stacking one wheel on top of the other (if this makes sense) so the overall width is narrower. Plenty of cardboard and/or blankets and stacking as above should do the trick. A bit more cardboard for the boot as one of the tyres is likely to rub on the upper surface of the boot. Hope this helps.

£85.50 delivered from BMW dealer
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-BM...IAAOSwqu9VUwxn and fit them yourself. If you take your time and are careful not to damage the old ones (a lot of people break clips by simply pulling them out), it takes no more than half an hour and that includes the time to make the removal tool (a piece of bent bar that you use to depress the clips). This is one of the easiest DIY's and will save you over £150 |

My local dealer wanted £330 to fit 2 new rear tyres (BMW approved) which I had purchased myself. I told him that he'd just lost a long standing customer. Am taking 4 new tyres to another dealer 30 miles away who's fitting 4 for £100 whilst doing an oil service. Dont trust my local indie with my diamond cut alloys
Point of the story? You have to shop around, some BMW dealers are crooks, plain and simple
