Car barely running all of a sudden- HPFP or something else?
My son's 2007 335i was running fine until the other night. All of a sudden it's barely idling, has no power, running very rough and we have the half engine light and a variety of others on the dash.
He just hooked up his laptop and got the following messages though his JB4: 30BB- DME failure 2D60- Fuel mass, monitoring 2C3C- lamda probe in cat 29D2- misfire cylinder 6 29DD- misfire cylinder 4 29CC- misfire multiple cylinders 2AAF- fuel pump plausibility 2AAE - Fuel pump 2C78- Lambda probe behind cat #2 The low pressure fuel pump is new so I doubt it's that. Could it be the high pressure fuel pump going out? He's got just over 80K so I hope the high pressure fuel pump would be covered if that is it. Other than having it towed it's not driveable to the dealership. It also has a JB4, VRSF Catless downpipes and a CRX FMIC. Would the dealership deny a warranty claim because of this? Can we take to it to our independent garage I trust instead? Sorry for all the questions, with his mods I want to tread carefully here. |

I'd think DME failure is the main cause from looking at those codes but I'm no expert.

If anything take the jb4 out before going to the dealership. Worth the 30-60 minutes for thousand of dollars paying out of warranty.
Never know it can help. Clear codes, map 0 than uninstall. I just took mine to the dealership with a fmic but took out the jb4 and they didn't say anything about that. Sounds like hpfp though from what you're describing, mine went out and had the same problems (idle and such)

Can an independent fix the HPFP under warranty? There is a person I trust right up the road. The Stealership will require a tow and I don't trust them.

Sounds like the dreaded DME failure.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=734162 Luckily, it could be a fairly cheap fix. Dealership won't honor your warranty with the JB4 as the issue is related to the DME. Take a look at the link above and proceed what best suits you. Personally, I'd buy the new mosfets myself and have someone local solder them on. |

DME failure which then fried 2 engine coils (hence the misfire), and possibly 2 spark plugs. Link listed above is a great help. Relatively easy enough fix. Will save u $$$$$$

Check the plugs and go from there.
I 'believe' that a failed Mosfet will result in a non-working injector (e.g. closed all the time) if so, wet plugs would indicate an injector issue, rather than a DME/mosfet issue. |

DME. If you have warranty get it replaced. If not, get the defective mosfets replaced on the DME. Also be sure to change the Spark Plugs, Coils, and Injectors. You could just do the mosfets and give it a shot, but most likely the the injectors have been damaged too, along with the coils. How do I know- happened to me

Got the mosfets ordered, they will be here on Monday. I already pulled the DME so now it's just a matter of desoldering the old and soldering in the new mosfets. After that we'll see if that takes care of the problem or not. I ended up ordering extra's because they are so cheap.

The mosfets arrived last night. After my son looked at the board and started to desolder one he decided it was best to have it sent out as his solder iron did not have an adjustable temperature capability. There is a person local in Houston we found on ebay. Sending it out today to him.
