HK System Settings
I can't find the thread off this BimmerPost app but last night I fixed the sound on my HK system with the recommended settings by GlennQNYC. I absolutely hated it when I picked it up on Saturday. It sounded like a Bose system - no highs and no lows.
So thank you my brother wherever you are! |

On page 5 or so he gives his updated settings. I run my settings nearly identical to his (though I boost the overall bass a bit for certain genres) and it is night/day over factory. |

i was listening to my hk for maybe a minute and immediately changed to glenn's settings because i had taken a screenshot of it for when my car arrived.
my first impression was hk was good for the car, but i switched over to the new settings too quick i can't really say much. as is the system sounds great. i like it better than my eps in my e90, but that's for different reasons. |

This is true of any speaker ever. The components that make up the speaker's suspension, namely the spider and the cone surround, will lose their initial stiffness as they are broken in. As this process happens (it happens gradually over time) you will hear an increase in warmth, deeper lows, and smoother highs.
How long this takes depends on a huge number of variables: humidity, temperature, volume, listening material, how often you use them, the material composition of the speaker itself, etc. The best way to break them in is to just play music on them fairly loudly as much as possible. This generally isn't a problem, for me at least.
