Whats the difference between the different leather instument panel options?

Apart from £260, what the difference between:

"Instrument panel, leather" and "Leather instrument panel - BMW Ind"?

Panel is just the top, the Ind is the lower part as well including glovebox I think....

If you have standard leather, then it's the £815 one (which does both top and bottom dash in leather). If you have an individual leather (for seats), then you choose the other one.

So all depends on what seats you have and if you have individual leather for your seats.

No, I have the £815 one, and both parts of my dash are leather.

Both are Nappa leather (merino is another name for nappa), individual one has contrasting coloured stitching, but can only be ordered in conjunction with individual leather seats.

So is the leather different between the two options like it is for the seats?

If you specify leather dash (either option) if you have a non-black seat colour choice, do you always end up with 2-tone?

My order is CR interior and considering adding leather dash, but don't want 2-tone

Anyone know?

Are sure? I thought the cheaper one was Dakota leather. Otherwise why does the other option state "Individual"? Put another way, individual leather seats are Merino leather, while the normal ones are Dakota. I think the same applies to the instrument panel leather.

Isn't the merino leather finer grade, less graining and comes off a sheep's back (as in lambs leather), whereas dakota is off a cow?

I had the same issue. Ordered standard oyster leather but didn't want two tone dash.

BMW UK confirmed that by ordering a leather dash it will be all black. That's what I've ordered.

Both Dakota and Merino come from Cows. Dakota is pretty thick stuff that has a synthetic coating (effectively its painted) as well as embossing on the surface.

Merino is aniline leather that is dyed rather than painted.

A good description can be found here:

Just for clarification:

Standard instrument panel leather is in black nappa.
Individual instrument panel leather gives upper part matching colour to interior in nappa - so usually black, and lower part in merino leather in same colour as seats

From the configurator:

Standard:

The top and underside of the BMW Individual instrument panel is covered in black 'Nappa' leather. The sophisticated aesthetic of this high-quality trim lends the interior an even more luxurious feel.

Individual:

The upper part of the BMW Individual instrument panel is upholstered in matching 'Nappa' leather in the interior colour. The sophisticated aesthetic of this high-quality look – along with door panels in the same design – lends the interior an even more luxurious feel. The lower part of the instrument panel is also covered in attractive BMW Individual leather 'Merino' in the colour of the upholstery.

Not quite.

Dakota isn't Nappa leather. Nappa sits between Dakota and Merino as its a semi aniline leather. Nappa isn't offered on the F30 seats, but is on the F10.

I suspect Dakota would be too thick and stiff to fit nicely across the dash.

Cheers, will edit my post

I was going to modify my order to add leather dash but it would have risked delaying production so I didn't bother in the end.
