MPSS to be superseded by pilot sport 4

Just reading an article stating that the MPSS is to be replaced by the new Pilot Sport 4 tyre. 19inch and above sizes will carry on being produced till next year but smaller ones will stop this year.

Apparently this is because the super sport has been so good and successful that it didn't get a midlife update, and Michelin just put all the effort in to PS4 to make sure it was a step on from the super sport.

No mention of it, but I think there is a Pilot Sport ZP of some description already?

What I hadn't realised is that the Pilot Sport 3 wasn't a repalcement for the PS2, but more one of the more tourin aimed tyres, and hence the MPSS had actually became the de-facto replacement of the PS2, and that this is Michelin putting the Pilot Sport back to where it was before.

So if the Pilot Sport ZP is a PS2 then you may be in luck, but if it's a PS3 ZP then maybe not.

Are MPSS widely regarded to be the best for F30 then? Are they good for mileage as well as grip?

Thanks

Was reading about this the other week...

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article...ss-Release.htm

"As for the fate of the much loved Pilot Super Sport? This tyre will continue to sit above the Pilot Sport 4, catering to those of us who want an even higher level of performance in 19 inches and above."

If by best you mean for handling and performance (wet or dry) then I'd say yes. There are cheaper tyres, probably slightly quieter tyres, better at out and out aquaplaning resistance, and also more fuel efficient, but no tyre is the best at all things.

Yeh as in all things, but i see them mentioned a lot so they must be well regarded, will consider them when its time to change the boots

As for mileage, I'm assuming you mean longevity in which case I'd say that it totally depends on how you drive, but I got 27000 miles out of my last set despite a few track days, which isn't too bad.

Just read the review flagged above and my interpretation is that the PS4 will be marketed alongside the MPSS as a less performance orientated tyre as opposed to being a replacement.

Or am I getting confused ??

The Evo article definitely says the PS4 will supersede the MPSS, and that MPSS production will stop (except for homologations versions) either this year or next depending on sizes.
Whether that's true or not, I've no idea!

This update may help, it states the EVO article is wrong.

Good find Pete. Seems to me that Evo have misinterpreted Michelin saying the PS4 is better than the MPSS tyre to mean it is replacing.

From that article it sound like it may be a better tyre for most of use our cars as all round daily drivers but still want optimum performance.

Yeah MPSS was always the new PS2, the PS3 was more mid range.
