anyone tried 245/40 R17 all round?
Seems like 245/40 R17 will just fit onto 8" wide rims, so I'm thinking of replacing the runflat tires with 245/40 R17 all round (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric or something similar)
Anyone else try a combo like this? |

My rear slicks are 245-40 16's on 7" wheels. Tread is a little wider than the wheel but it has a nice flat contact patch so an 8" wheel should be that much better.
I'm going from the 225-50-16 RFT's to 235-45-17 F1 GS-D3's for my every day tires. Have a set of 17"x8" style 71's arriving Thursday to wrap them around. They're only .4" taller (should help correct my 3 mph speedo error) but .5" wider than the 225-45-17's.

I wouldnt go wider than 235 with an 8" wide rim, but you can push it to 245. I think Mercedes uses 245 on 8" wide wheels from factory.
I'm running 255 on 9" wide in the rear and will probably stuff a 265 on it with the next set of tires. You don't want to get excessively wide on rims that can't support it as this will lead to sloppy handling as the tire flops side to side on the rim.
