ACS springs + Goodyear rft tyres
Right, I have had a set of the Acs springs and a set of GY asy2 rft tyres sitting waiting for our local friendly mechanic to have time to fit. I also got him to fit the silver vision indicator bulbs and the Osram nightbreaker ultimate Hid bulbs as it's easier when the wheel is off.
Originally the car had the Bridgestone rft's and standard adaptive suspension. It does have the newer 5 point mounts for front struts. The standard ride is fine but a bit crashy at times with a harsh edge to it even though the suspension is quite compliant, so I put it down to the tyres. The handling was okay but not going to set the world alight! Doesn't really wallow, dive or squat as earlier cars perhaps did. The only real complaint would have been a twitchyness, or lack of feeling planted particularly at higher speed. Well, what a revalation! It now feels properly planted and stable. The difference is both subtle and dramatic, it's more comfortable, quieter, smoother, no crashing and a massive improvement. It's the car it should always have been! If the GY tyres had been no better I was going to change to non-rft tyres and sell these on, but I am pleasantly surprised by them and see no reason to change out. Not tried them in anger yet but they are a* Massive* improvement over the Bridgestones. |

Couldn't agree more. The Goodyears are about the best of the runflats IMO. I won't be bothering with non RF's now. Where as I definitely would have in the past.

It's actually quite shocking how BMW got the spring rates so wrong on these cars, but fantastic you have such an easy and inexpensive fix!
Just out of interest, do you happen to know how many % stiffer your springs are over standard or is that a trade secret?! |

Hi, I have exact same setup on my x drive, having had GY RFT as standard and switching to ACS springs only a couple of weeks ago. Completely agree with you on the improvement, the car is so much better now.
However, I still don't like the run flats, in fact I hate them....there just seems to be something really lacking in them, compliance, grip, lack of confidence etc. I am pretty certain that something like MPSS will be another big improvement.

LOL
Probably a difficult one to quantify anyway...from my experience of the springs the lower end of the spring itself must be very similar to stock as gentle day to day driving is just as comfortable. The spring itself is much more progressive so feels more stable/firm when you push the car. No doubt rebound, compression is all dialled in differently, hence the big improvement. Me likey

It may be I find these tyres defficient over the longer term I guess and switch to non-rft next time I change - the jury is still out! |

+ 1 ACS with Goodyear RFT's. I am happy with both ride and performance in dry & wet, don't like Pirelli or Bridgestone RFT's. Goodyear use a softer tyre compound I believe.
