noise coming from RR dps
i got my dp installed yesterday everything was good...the next day i start the car and there is a noise that sounds like a chain rattling, so i start driving and i get the service engine soon light and it says power reduced on the i drive. then i lower my window and i can hear the rattling sound from 1K rpm to 3k rmp. I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem and what it can be or did the mechanic put the pipes in wrong ?

either your shop screwed up, or a cracked weld...
i would just take it straight to RR and have them check it out...

I also encounted that. However, mine's a RHD. Seems that one of the pipes is very close to a "wall" which cause the rattling sound. Went back to the workshop, and they put a thick piece of rubber from a hose in btw, so far, have not got any rattling for a week. My workshop have to take out a metal plate from the side as it was too close to fit back. I'm not sure if rest have similar problems on a LHD car.

sounds like an install issue... the chance of a weld breaking is slim to none.
Take it back to the shop you had install them. I have done over 10 installs on these and nothing has happend like you descibed...... just that no one can get traction anymore If you would like you can always bring it to me and ill check it out... there is a certain way to postion the DP's or "clock" them when they are on the turbo... they will move the left and right a bit when you clamp them on the turbo before you tighten them... let me know if you need help. |

regardless of the origin of the rattling sound, it is unrelated to your check engine light...from what I've read, you need to get Terry's o2 sims and you'll be fine...
regarding the rattling, that's got to be a simple install issue, take it back and have them look at it, I'm sure it can be fixed easily |

you should take it back to the shop and have them figure it out since they were the ones who did the install. gl, keep us posted.

I am also having a similar problem. I had the RR DP's installed about a week ago and I'm now having a severe ticking sound coming from my engine bay. The research I've done from other e90 postings states the problem could be a wastegate issue. This will be a time consuming process if I have to remove my mods and bring the car into the dealership. Whats the chances of this rather then the DP's or heat shield of some sort touching? The ticking noise speeds up as the engine revs as well.
Thanks, YB |

Fitment issues, most of the time, are when the mechanic (other than RR approved installers) tighten the top turbo clamp too tight when installing the actual catback. Make sure the turbo clamp is on loosely and install the catback, then tighten both. |

also make sure the o2 sensors are installed in the correct pipes not switched or your ECU will get contradictory signals which would explain why it took a while to foul as it perpetually corrected in the opposite direction it was supposed to
