M2 Vs. 340I (PPK)

As I'm already day dreaming about my next car, it'll either be between one of these two. As much as I like quick competent cars, I do like a comfortable ride as well.

I've had enough bone shaking cars in my time to become allergic. Never driven an M car so, any thoughts? Preferences, looking forward to it? Which one would you go for as the 340I PPK is nearly as powerful as the M2?

Why not just go for an M3?

Better tech kit etc.

Not a bad question, I could do but the though of paying the equivalent of a mortgage on a car just makes my brain go all weird.

What, and you wouldn't be doing that on an M2

Depends on how long you intend dreaming , the M2 is going to be painful for a couple of years until the hype is over. The 340is probably going to be easier to live with but I would personally prefer the M2 although if you buy one in the not too distant future you might find yourself getting up of the toilet and seeing something that resembles a leather chamois between your legs .....that will be your arse dangling after a visit to the stealers

Well list price wise the M2 (44K) only comes in at 3K more than the 335D (41K) I've got now, after a bit of discount I can't see it being a house equivalent payment.. Especially not M3 money.!

So no, I wouldn't ..

I literally change cars every year, if the 335D could even last two I'd be impressed.

Yeah, might be worth letting the hype dull down a bit first..

Some odd BMW pricing going on again... So the M3 / M4 / M5 are all the same price (£599.00 and 6K deposit) and the M2 is £559.00 and £7,272.36..

I'm actually feeling a little more inclined towards one of the bigger M cars at this point..

Exactly, and M2's are not going to see the levels of discount seen on the 'M' cars you noted above. Infact, I think it's fair to say, those cars are likely to see even better deals as time goes by. + nobody is going to buy an M2 in std guise, spec it anywhere near an M3 std and the gap gets closer still.

I'm sure I'll understand BMW Finance logic at some point where the more expensive car seems to end up the same price or cheaper. Same happend with a 330D and I just saw a 220D Coupe that was more expensive than my car...

Yeah I might consider an M3 at some point then, question being is it THAT much better than a 340i with PPK? Worth the £250.00 a month extra?

There's so much 340i trollope on this UK Forum that people are actually questioning actual M cars. Lol

Seriously, what are you guys and gals like? Come onto this forum beaming about the 335D and I'm already considering an M5.>!

I might wait until they hit rock bottom due to new models coming in, then see what I can get.!

The M5 is a barge, but it seems the perfect mixture between comfort and insane power.

M2 will not be comfortable, no adaptive suspension is available and almost all sound deadening has been removed.

Affording the monthly payments on an M5 is one thing. Affording an M5 is a completely different story

Totally disagree with the comment that nobody will buy and M2 standard guise... it is actually being marketed as having all you need in base spec and for me it does, including manual box

Part of the appeal is you don't have to (and in fact cant) add loads of fancy trim and wheel options.. So a base car in (well received ) manual format, with a couple of options in my case heated seats is probably all I would add so I think plenty of people who want a manual analogue M car wont spend a fortune on options...

Same.

Mine will come totally stock. or with Sunroof only.

Then the mods begin for sure if its a second car. Will be getting a mother of a drop and maybe a more colourful wrap. Then power hike yada yada

No problem, can't wait to see the threads on the M2 about spec'ing orders. Will go something like this:

Hey all, just ordered a new M2
first response will be: what spec did you go for?
reply: Err, std no options
response:

I rest my case and look forward to the pics of your car when you take delivery

I'm Confused !

Must have options in a fast focused rwd car - Prof Nav, Xenons (better than LED anyway), decent brakes, 19inch wheels, manual gearbox.

All std kit..

No need to add anything else surely ? I went through the brochure and the only thing remotely interesting was a sunroof or heated seats.

Better colour choice would def be welcome but apart from that I couldn't see any need to spend more than £1000 on options.
