How to make more power without chip

Hey there folks im new to the e92 forum, i was wondering how can this car be made faster with just a couple bolt on mods, for example an air filter or such. I dont want a chip because itll void my warranty.

What does everyone think of the k and n filter insrt?

It'll only void your warranty if there is a problem and they decide it was caused by your modification. Just remove it when going in for service or if there is a problem.. and you'll most likely be good to go.

Catless downpipes, intake, FMIC, free flowing exhaust...

If warranty is an issues I'd be leary about catless downpipes, or any other downpipe mod. There is always Dinan, which would give you the warranty.

Downpipes, CAI, drag radials are a good start.

A Denial of a warranty claim would require the dealer to prove that the defect was specifically caused by the modification.

Why not consider the SSTT? If it's warranty you're concerned about, then it's easier to take one minute to remove it and be stock....rather than roll into the dealership with downpipes and exhaust.

I didn't measure any gain with the K&N. My 12.13 run was with the stock air cleaner element, stock downpipes, and stock exhaust. I hear that down pipes make good power. But in my opinion there might be more warranty issues with a aftermarket down pipe than a tune that you remove.

If you are worried about warranty stuff go with Dinan parts. Even if you just get a flash it will be more bang for your buck than a full exhaust (DP's catback) which you still might have warranty issues with if they feel like being pricks.

Or wait for the BMW performance line to come out.

Valid point. But also consider that removing the cats increases exhaust speed outside of stock specs, increases HP and torque outside of stock specs, the 02 sensor no longer sends a valid signal to the ecu, and that it's illegal to operate a car without cats in most states. All I'm saying is that if it's warranty you're concerned with then with DP's you might be walking into a sticky situation.

how can i make my car faster without modding it.. whats the point. the car will have shitty gains from anything besides a air filter change because you dont have the chip program to make the adjustment.

so ya, goto the gym and remove your floor mats. thats about it.. or grow some balls and put a simple chip on it. no one is blowing up their cars..

what a pity there are only catless DPs available. Or... hmmm... do we have catted ones offered, too?

Guys, U are talking about RR DPs like this is the only salvation. Wake up. First of all, if U want catless U can get the new Vivid DPs cheaper + UR catless. If U're worried about warranty/environment/law enforcement, get UR catted DPs. U'll achieve a considerable gain while not worrying about removed cats.

PS: Newbies - always consult the Official Performance Mod List for 335i (sticky in this forum, thx imaznumkay)

After adding an exhaust, dps, fmic, and cai...you still would not come close to the hp gains of any chip on the market. All these mods will cost a pretty penny to buy and install. Piggyback or flash is def. the first thing you should do for max. hp for your dollar. Even if you only go with an sstt.

Technically catted DP's are illegal too.

Any unreasonable change of cats is illegal, but most of the authorities (at least in my country) won't give a damn (yes, check my sig) if there are at least some cats on the way from the engine to the air, as the letter of the law is fulfilled and they just dont bother.

One of my friends changed to custom exhaust with HFC. When doing smog test he took a part of his old OEM exhaust (pretty rusty) to the trunk, with its cat "customized" with a hammer. Then, when the technician asked him about the new exhaust, he just pulled it out from the trunk saying it was accindentally damaged while taking a field by-road and he had to replace it. He said OK, the smog values were well within the limit, so he just let him go.

uhh.. weight loss, Freeflow/highflow/catless Downpipes & or Exhaust... But by what you are asking.. Filters barely make any change, unless you get a chip.. just get the SSTT, its really easy to install/ uninstall and its very good for daily driving.

Catless downpipes (15-20 whp) will prob give u the most gains after a chip. CAI/fmic/full exhaust will give prob around 10whp each

I would still do some sort of ECU calibration to adjust the AFR etc.

At any time you change airflow, you should optimize it by getting your ecu tuned.
