Expected Gains From Performance Muffler

Hey guys, im curious about buying a supersprint muffler. I am aware that i should realy do it the right way and buy a whole system. But that is not an option due to my financial situation. I want the muffler for the sound and hopefully some performance gain.

What do you guys think. What it the performance trade-offs.

I am hoping to compare the two types of systems in relation to price.

a muffler for about $600

or a whole system for several grand

Also, where can I buy an Essienmann or supersprint muffler.

Turner Motorsport wants way too much money for the supersprint muffler ( close to $1,000)

you arent going to get any noticable performance gains out of a muffler and only a very minor gain out of a full system... Exhaust on the bimmer is really just to give it a nice sound. and you can buy eisenmann at www.eisenhaus.com

$950 seems like an awful lot of dough.

it says at the bottom that the user is liable for anything resulting from thier use. Do these things pass emissions? it sounds like they dont!

im more skeptical after viewing the essienmann (SP?) web-page

to be honest, these small mods such as intakes and exhaust dont give you much gains. im sure you'll get like 2..3hp here and their but its not enough to actually tell. as opposed to a turbo or supercharger, where the gains and incredible. most people that get a intake or exhaust are all in it for the sound

fine tuned N/A motors really don't gain much from minor bolt-ons.
Intake/Exhaust really is supposed to be the "first step" upgrade in order to support increase in power from major power modifications. Not a priority step to gain real hp/tq out of it. F/I cars benefit alot from just basic bolt-ons. So if you are looking for power, look into serious N/A power tuning or forced induction(Turbocharger/Supercharger) first. Worry about I/H/E later.

Now, if you are just looking for sound, eisenmann exhaust will do a VERY good job.

Just FYI I'm 99.99999% sure mufflers have no effect on the emmisions of a car. The only thing about this muffler that could make it illegal is if it is too loud.
