Paddle Shifters

I have a '06 325i. I was wondering if there was anyway I could buy a steering wheel with the paddle shifters and put it on mine and have them work. Key thing, having them work.

Like a plug in and play.

definately not a plug and play. rewiring and new hardware must be bought to retrofit the steering column.

what you said was kind of a double negative. "any way to make it work"...and "plug and play"...

not a double negative, they are contradicting statments.

Yeah this can be done fairly easy, we have some specialised workshops in SIngapore specialising in Bimmers, they have done quite a few for our local cars....right now Im waiting for the M3 Steering with Paddle Shifters to come out and I will fix it onto my E90. Also I have installed the M5 Gear Knob and the technician fixed it in a jiffy with all the lights working as well. No issues at all yeah.

Definitely not plug-and-play. Its not like BMW in 2005/6 when they were building your car prewired the steering column for possible future paddles.

I agree with ctgazer. Currently no wires are running to the wheel to control transmission/shifting. I'm guessing you would need to run wires from the gear selector through the dash to the steering column or some more involved mod than just a new steering wheel. The bigger question is do you feel comfortable having someone tap into your transmission? One bad move and you have a pricey mistake & voided warranty.

Do you plan on attaching the M3 wheel with paddles to an e90 currently with paddles? If so I can see how this may be easy. If the e90 has no paddles I dont see how this can be an easy mod by andyffer's definition of plug-and-play.

We had a few club guys in singapore with the E46 not having any paddle shifts in the first place and they had one of our local mod shops help them wire up the paddle shifts to our transmission. The first guy took quite sometime to wire it up, once his is up, the others that followed were pretty smooth sailing. I guess for E90, they have not had any experience yet. I will be the guinea pig I suppose. BTW mine does not come with Paddleshifts.

Damn, there was a paddle sport steering wheel up for sale on ebay not to long ago, I wonder if the winning bidder was a member on here that has a 325/328/330 *wishful thinking*... I've seen the conversion of an e46 without wires retrofitted to work with the paddles, I'm sure it would be possible for us to do the same. I would love to see someone have at it and try to retrofit, probably end up being a huge PIA though I'm not too knowledgeable with the wiring in a German car but someone that has some knowledge of how/what you need should definitely give it a try!
