340i MPE as port installed accessory

As recommended from MadZarBMR I reached out to Tyler at BMW Genius to check into the availability of MPE for the 340. He has some contacts within his group and port to check if MPE is available / when it will be available. He owes me a call back later today. Once I have info, ill pass it along.

FYI - he can add accessories to the order if they are available thus by-passing your CA/dealer.

Just thought I would open a thread about this for those interested to keep you in the loop.

what's the advantage of a port install vs dealer (other than time)?

It's a financial advantage if you lease - you are paying only the residual value + money factor rather than full amount.

If I remember correctly, you also do not pay for labor.

Bingo! Final MSRP will increase with each PIA, which will adjust your residual value at end of lease.

Example:
Options from factory = 50000
PIA = 1000
Residual = 62%
Value at end of lease terms = (50+1)*.62 = 31620.
Therefore you are paying only 38% of the PIA unless you choose to buy the vehicle at the end of the lease.

Anyway - back on track! haha Tyler called back and will be pinging is port rep and calling me back once he has more information.

Yeah, I wanted MPPK/MPE at PIA for the residualized cost but I just took delivery of my 340i a few days ago. Not sure that I'll get it afterthefact at full cost + labor.

Someone in another thread said there might be a difference between the standalone MPE and the one required with the MPPK (Power and Sound Kit). I have not read about anyone confirming this though.

Same here, looks like i'm skipping MPPK+MPE as well as it won't be available when my car arrives either /cry not paying full price + labor on a lease.

I think I recall reading in a forum somewhere recently that the MPE is only available for auto trans cars at this point? Maybe that is why you could add it? Some sort of fitment issue with the manual transmission?

This made me doubt what my CA had told me since I also recalled that M parts were not 100% residualized when they were first introduced for the 3 series. Apparently, there has been a change and now 100% of what appears on the Monroney Sticker is fully residualized at 100% of MSRP. My CA just confirmed this for me in writing today so there is definitely an advantage to having these installed at port.

It's a great program looking to spice up their factory build without violating warranty, and to those leasing - don't pay full price. It's a win win in my opinion.

That sounds ridiculous to me, its the same exhaust auto or manual on the current cars, don't see any reason why that would be different now.

While I don't understand it either looking at realoem and etk as well as several other posts here it does look like there is no MPE yet for the MT 340i.

Could be baffling differences to avoid drone on the auto's as they will drone more due to the fact they can use higher gears (lower rpm) and kick down to a lower gear very quickly allowing them to be aggressive with the upshift's but this probably leaves the car in the drone range a lot.

Just a guess.

gah! wish i had known that, that's a huge diff on a lease. i was thinking of my 135 that had a ppk on it. they rolled it in at a 0% residual, but that's because it was dealer installed, not port installed.

Not at my desk at the moment but msrp is ~$1635. It's inline with n55 MPE cost. Invoice is probably in the 1100/1200 ballpark. Send me a pm as a reminder if you want actual msrp. :-)

I'm having my dealer check on this now to see if I can add this to my order. Would be awesome to have it residualized on the lease!
