Playing & Charging iPhone

XI on order
In my current X3 I play and charge my iPhone via a BMW supplied Y cable that connects to two sockets under the armrest.
Is this the same in the XI?
Concerned that I should have ordered the enhanced Bluetooth option (6NS)

Also is there a USB port in the glove box (as there is in X3) for updating of maps and software etc?
Thx

There is a usb in the lower center consol which I use to charge iphone and play it via standard X1 bluetooth with full access/album covers etc via the idrive, works a treat.
I had already purchased a non oem y cable and unfortunately that didn't work (except for charging).

You just use your standard apple cable and plug it into the USB socket under the arm rest.

This gives you full control of the music in your phone via the iDrive system.

You can also not plug it in and connect via Bluetooth. The results for both are almost identical.

No upgrades or special cables required.

I thought I read somewhere in the manual that it isn't recommended to charge you iPhone with the USB jack although playing through it charges it anyways. Don't quite understand that.

If you use the Y cable, the phone is charged via the Aux power, whilst the media is done through the USB
Both the USB and Aux are located in the bin under the armrest

You can also connect via Bluetooth

You shouldn't need the "Y" cable if you have any of the extended BT features, because you can connect to the USB using the standard Apple USB-Lightning cable

I dont think there is a USB in the glovebox on th X1. The owners manual suggests that software updates can be done by either the usb connection in the centre console or directly via BMW teleservices.

There is not a usb in the glove box in the new X1 (f48), but was one in the previous x1. I found it by accident in my '14' X1.
