Sky multi-room install

Does anyone have sky multi-room? If so, is your sky box installed inside a wardrobe?

I have an install booked for the 16th, but need it put inside a wardrobe, do you think they will do this? It will require the lead to be run through the loft, and drilled down through the ceiling....

Depends very often on your installer. Sometimes having a bit of prep done for them can make things a lot sweeter as can a £20 note or two.

They'll want to run the cable along the easiest route. Usually this means clipping externally then drilling through the outside wall at the closest point. I'm not sure they'll go into the loft or under floors.
I had multiroom installed last Autumn. The cable run was easy though.
Pity you can't yet get Sky Q. Multiroom boxes will be wireless and thus need no cabling.

They won't route internally unless you slip 'em a few quid. If your box is in a wardrobe how are you going to control it?

or buy a droidbox or similar android TV box ..... cheaper and works wirelessly if you have a good enough internet speed so no install needed. I haven't got one but have seen one in use at a friends recently.

Offer him something but I am not sure they will help much - worse case just let him set things up and then get a handy man to do the job as you want it. Just out of curiosity, how will you be controlling the box? Harmony Hub?

With the android boxes you can stream SKY through it as well as everything else that is available via the internet.

We'll not go into the legalities of doing that, though as your already paying sky for your install downstairs I don't see anything morally wrong with it.

The box and to are in the wardrobe so will have the doors open when the tv is on.

Tbh I can just run the cable to where I want it after he has done the install....

From experience Sky engineers are fussy, our dish is up on a bit of a roof and they won't touch it as it isn't a 'standard install'. Easiest thing to do is run the cable yourself before they arrive.

Exactly what I have done - they did it no bother - I just made sure everything was out of the way to make it as easy as possible for them.

really glad I did mine and the magic eye remote works great too.
Putting it in the wardrobe will recue the noise of the unit when it downloads all the stuff overnight too.

Managed to convince the Engineer to run our cable under two floors and through an internal wall by moving everything out of the way and lifting the floorboards. Alternatively just ask them to leave enough cable for you to route it yourself after they leave.
