Keyless door systems
Has anyone taken the plunge and went totally keyless at home?
Currently looking at upgrading our external doors with keyless. Looking at something like this for our external patio door. The inner doors would have a secure system setup. Also looking at NEST system as well, Yale and some other manufacturers are Nest compatible. https://workswith.nest.com/category/all/product/201 Not going keypad and lock, as they are so not secure - check how easy to access. |

When you press the remote do your living room lights flash twice to let you know the doors are locked ??
On a serious note your breaking and entering videos are making me feel a bit concerned about home security !! Best thing I ever did was upgrade to a monitored alarm with police response.

I looked at these when buying a new front door a couple of months ago, £3-400 for an ugly electronic lock on the front door talked me out of it.
Instead I have gone for the suited locks with security keys - so no one can snap locks or cut extra keys and I have one key for all external locks. EDIT: I have Nest alarms though - they are the best!

I get 45% discount with Yale and free security assessment (Forces Discount) and they are based about 5 miles from me. I am interested in the Nest alarms though. My 'project' for 2016 is adding smart tech to the house. |

IMO it would make the front door look like the entrance to a cheap block of flats
Might be OK out of site for the patio doors though. Would it not be a better idea to save the money and put it towards moving to a better area? |

Damn of course criminals never break in to houses in Chelsea, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire etc. We actually have a low crime rate here, however it all comes down to risk awareness. The problem is key locks are very easy to open, some are scarily so. So as I am upgrading, it's worth looking at new tech - but not some of the mobile connected stuff as again they are hackable. However, yes some of the new types just come in rather hideous chrome, there are decent styled ones about though. |

How many master lock picks are sneaking round robbing houses?
Most thieves are half brained idiots, If someone wants to get in am sure a brick through a window is quick enough for them to steal what they see through it? Id much prefer a reinforced door/frame than a tech lock, keep the tech for inside the house, if broken in all inside doors auto lock, that would make stealing anything a ball ache, but also a expensive project |

The ones I know are quite clever. One lad has 2 door frames built in his garage, these are in order to find vulnerablities in different locks. Yes the low life smack heads are usually not clever enough. |

You'd be amazed at how easy it is to take a window out. Locks just stop chancers and you don't need a good lock to achieve that aim.
If I was unlucky enough to be targeted by thieves, I think I'd like them to get in with as little mess as possible, and leave in the same fashion. Insurance will replace anything taken. Personally, I'd look at measures to catch thieves e.g. CCTV, marking property, tracking property etc. that way the thief could get caught and punished rather than just smash the place up and leave then move on to steal from someone else. |
