Deciding on exhaust e90 335
Hey everyone,
So I have a 2009 e90 335i 6 speed with xdrive. I really want to get a exhaust system put on because I know they sound good with a performance cat back on. I got the x pipe put in a while ago and it didn't make anything for difference. I know a guy that has the M performance exhaust with vrsf catless downpipes, that sounds deadly. But now I'm leaning towards the Meisterschaft GT catback because that seems to sound the best, but not that many people seem to have it. It seems pretty loud and very aggressive on YouTube. Anyone have this setup?? I just need some input. Thanks guys! |

Best sounding exhausts are the GThaus, Active Autowerke and Remus
PE is very popular on this forum but most users have not heard comparison between PE and AA, GTHaus and Remus

I have a stock exhaust with catless down pipes and use the JB4 to open the exhaust flap full time.
IMO, it's the perfect sounding exhaust. Not too loud and droney, certainly not quiet though. Everyone is different, but youtube sound clips might help give you a better idea, however going to local meets to actually hear the different types in person would be ideal. |

A friend of mine has the Remus system, a and he says it's extremely quiet.. But yes the pe, a&a, and gthaus all are my favorites. Not sure which one I like more, I think more GThaus.

If I were you, I would find someone with catless downpipes and BMW PE (performance exhaust). It's probably the most popular and common set up. Take a ride of listen in on it.

What is your goal in changing the exhaust? Because if its to find a sound that is awesome to you... then you are the only one that can say something is good or not once you compare around. What I like in sound will probably be hated by all my neighbors as I fire up my car at 2am and cruise up/down the street on my block. Me personally (Maybe cuz I'm getting old) don't really care much about how it sounds... but only about if it will add significant performance improvement over the stock exhaust vs the cost of the part. No way I'm going to spend $1k+ to change an exhaust to yield like 10hp over stock exhaust and 5 lbs of weight savings on my daily driver. I would rather put that money towards FBO parts and/or DP's. |

My understanding is that there aren't even 10hp to be found in an exhaust system. DPs are the only HP gains. I may be wrong.

I've had my AA exhaust for a few years now.
-with stock dps, no raspiness, little drone. Sounds great. -with catless dps, it can get raspy under load. I will be switching back to stock exhaust or may add a resonator. It sounds amazing from the outside, but in the cabin, it can get annoying to people who are not used to it. Performance gains are negligible, all for sound. Leaning toward PE exhaust in the near future.

I'd say Remus is best sounding. I have a buddy with vanguard and sounds pretty awesome too. I'd say all these exhausts sound best with catless downpipes though but that's just my opinion haha

I love my stock 335i exhaust. Just loud enough and sounds awesome. If you just want louder then put CAI.

Circuit Werks Exhaust
$465 shipped to my door, excellent build and welds, stainless steel, and sounds amazing. Hate it, if you must, all the way to the bank; I love it and recommend it.

Corsa® 14561 - 304 Stainless Steel Axle-Back Exhaust System
I have this and there is zero drone due to the Corsa RSC Reflective Sound Cancelling technology. It works well and the sound is really good. Not too expensive under $1000 and if you look you will find it considerably cheaper. Easy install as well... simple cut of the existing mufflers and it slips on. I did it myself and it was pretty straight forward.
